SC appoints high-level committee under retired judge Indu Malhotra to investigate PM’s security breach:

The Supreme Court has appointed former SC Judge, Indu Malhotra, as the Chairperson to head the inquiry committee, along with other members.
The inquiry committee will look into the alleged security breach of Prime Minister’s Punjab visit on 5th January this year.
A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, have passed the order.

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day- Jan 11

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11 raises awareness of the persistent issue of human trafficking.
Though the entire month of January has already been recognized as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, this day is specifically dedicated to awareness and prevention of the illegal practice.
This holiday is also separate from the World Day Against Trafficking Persons, as established by the United Nations.

SC to set up high-level committee to inquire into security lapses during PM’s visit to Punjab:

Supreme Court to constitute a high-level committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge to investigate lapses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab.
A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli was hearing the plea filed by an organisation.
Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab.

World Hindi Day- Jan 10:

January 10 is celebrated as World Hindi Day every year to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world.
The day is especially observed by Indian embassies abroad.
The day marks the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference which was inaugurated on January 10, 1975, by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
In the year 1975, the first-ever World Hindi Conference took place in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on January 10.

Indian Oil s CSR initiative to help eliminate TB in Punjab & UP:

IndianOil has committed to support the National TB elimination Program (NTEP) in India by providing an enabling environment through integrated and prioritised intervention with City Coordination Committees, District Health Societies, Technical support groups, etc., in each of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh and 23 districts in Punjab.
The program’s key objective will be to screen and test the entire population of UP & Punjab every year for the next three years.
TB continues to be one of India’s severest health challenges.

CABINET APPROVALS:

Memorandum of Understanding between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management:
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management.
The MoU seeks to put in place a system, whereby both India and Turkmenistan will be benefited from the Disaster Management mechanisms of each other and it will help in strengthening the areas of preparedness, response and capacity building in the field of Disaster Management.

World Day of War Orphans: January 6

Every year on January 6, the World Day of War Orphans is recognized.
The World Day of War Orphans 2022 reminds the world that caring for children in awful conditions is a duty, particularly in the face of a pandemic.
Children who have been injured in a gunfight or separated from their families require particular care in order to heal the mental wounds of war, begin school, and restart normal life.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches theme of National Science Day 2022:

Union Science and Technology Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh has launched the theme of National Science Day 2022.
The theme of this year is ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’.
The National Science Day is observed every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of the Raman effect.
Launching the theme in New Delhi, Singh expressed hope that through this all the institutions across the country will be able to chart out programmes to observe the day.

World Braille Day- Jan 4

World Braille Day is an international day on 4 January and celebrates awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people
The day is marked remembering the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille – for people with visual disabilities.
Louis Braille was born on 4th January 1809 in the town of Coupvray in northern France.
Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols

Defense minister Rajnath Singh unveils 27 border infrastructure projects

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 24 bridges and three roads, which have been built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in four states and two union territories.
He listed the development of critical border infrastructure as a key priority to boost India’s overall military preparedness to confront any security challenge.
Out of the 24 bridges, nine are in Jammu and Kashmir, five each in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, three in Uttarakhand and one each in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh & Out of the three roads, two are in Ladakh and one is in West Bengal.
The bridges range from 20 meters to 140 meters in length.

PM releases 10th instalment of PM-KISAN:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released 10th instalment of financial benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme via video conferencing.
This enabled the transfer of an amount of more than Rs. 20,000 crore to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families.
During the programme, Prime Minister also released equity grant of more than 14 crore to about 351 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), which will benefit more than 1.24 lakh farmers.
Prime Minister interacted with FPOs during the event. Union Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Chief Ministers, LGs, Agriculture Ministers and farmers from several states were linked to the event.
Interacting with FPO from Uttarakhand, the Prime Minister inquired about the choice of organic farming by them and the ways of certification of the organic products.

PM Modi has inaugurated the Kanpur Metro Rail and Bina-Panki multi-product pipeline:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attended the 54th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur.
During his visit to Kanpur Mr Modi also inaugurated the completed section of the Metro Rail Project in the city. This section is nine-kilometre long from IIT, Kanpur to Moti Jheel.
The Prime Minister inspected the Kanpur Metro Rail Project and undertook a metro ride from IIT Metro Station to Geeta Nagar.
The entire length of the Metro Rail Project in Kanpur is 32 kilometres and is being built at a cost of over 11,000 crore rupees.
The Bina-Panki Multi-product Pipeline Project was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

India imposes anti-dumping duty on Chinese goods for 5 years

India has imposed anti-dumping duties on five Chinese products, including certain aluminum goods and some chemicals, for five years to guard local manufacturers from cheap imports from the neighboring country.

List of Products :

As per separate notifications of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC),

Flat-rolled products of aluminum
Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) component R-32
Silicone sealant (used in the manufacture of solar photovoltaic modules and thermal power applications)
Sodium hydrosulfite (used in the dye industry)
Hydrofluorocarbon mixtures (both have found use in the refrigeration industry).

These duties were imposed following recommendations of the Commerce Ministry’s investigation arm, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).
DGTR has concluded that these products have been exported to the Indian markets at below normal value, which has resulted in dumping.
CBIC has also imposed duty for five years on imports of calcined gypsum powder from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Iran.

Good Governance Index 2021 launched on Good Governance Day by Amit Shah:

Union Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Cooperation, Mr Amit Shah has released the Good Governance Index 2021 prepared by DARPG on Good Governance Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Good Governance Index, GGI 2021 Framework covered ten sectors and 58 indicators.
The sectors of GGI 2020-21 are:

Agriculture and Allied Sectors,
Commerce & Industries,
Human Resource Development,
Public Health,
Public Infrastructure & Utilities,
Economic Governance,
Social Welfare & Development,
Judicial & Public Security,
Environment, and
Citizen-Centric Governance.

The GGI 2020-21 categorises States and UTs into four categories, i.e.,

Other States – Group A;
Other States – Group B;
North-East and Hill States; and
Union Territories.

Good Governance Day- Dec 25:

Good governance day is observed annually on December 25.
The day aims to let the citizens, the students, who are the future of the country know about the government’s responsibilities and duties that it needs to fulfill.
The day is also celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On December 23, 2014, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) were announced as recipients of India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna.
Following the announcement, the Modi government announced that the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister would be treated as Good Governance Day.
Since then, the day is celebrated throughout the country every year on December 25.

National Consumer Rights Day- Dec 24:

December 24 is celebrated annually in India as National Consumer Rights Day, also called National Consumer Day, to commemorate December 24, 1986, when the Consumer Protection Act received assent of the President of India.
The purpose of the day is to make consumers aware of their rights and responsibilities.
The Union government, in partnership with the state government, conducts events on consumer awareness.
The National Consumer Rights Day was observed for the first time in 1986 under the Consumer Protection Act.

CABINET APPROVALS:

Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Copra for 2022 season:

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for copra for 2022 season.
The MSP for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) of milling copra has been increased to Rs10,590/- per quintal for 2022 season from Rs.10,335/- per quintal in 2021 and the MSP for ball copra has been increased to Rs.11,000/- per quintal for 2022 season from Rs.10,600/- per quintal in 2021.

National Mathematics Day: Dec 22

Every year, December 22 is celebrated as National Mathematics Day in India in honour of mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920).
This year India will celebrate the 134th Birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan
The day was announced as the national mathematics day by paying the tribute to Ramanujan in Chennai.
The celebrations were announced by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Madras University in 2012.

As the Nation is celebrating 75 years of Independence as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is undertaking several activities and initiatives to uphold the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the light of the fact that the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ could only be achieved if the Panchayati Raj Institutions of the country become self-dependent in all aspects, Sunil Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Thus, it would be apt to say that only ‘Atmanirbhar Panchayats’ can lay the foundation for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Goa’s Liberation Day- 19 Dec

Goa Liberation Day is observed on December 19 every year in India, and it marks the day Indian armed forces freed Goa in 1961 following 450 years of Portuguese rule.

International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers 2021 – Dec 17

Every year On December 17 is Observed as the International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers.

To end violence and hate crimes against people doing sex work.
