World Heart Day – Observed on Sep 29
- As per the World Heart Federation, World Heart Day is important as cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the world’s number one killer, resulting in 18.6 million deaths a year.
- The international holiday was established by the World Heart Federation in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
- The president of the World Heart Federation from 1997 to 1999, Antoni Bayés de Luna, had conceived this idea.
