International Midwives’ Day
- International Midwife Day is celebrated on the 5th of May every year, to appreciate the work of midwives.
- International Day of the Midwives was first celebrated May 5th 1991, and has since been observed in over 50 nations around the world.
- The idea of having a day to recognize and honor midwives came out of the 1987 International Confederation of Midwives conference in the Netherlands.
- This year in 2020, the International Confederation of Midwives’ theme is-Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilise, unite – our time is NOW!
