1. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in line with Prime Minister’s vision to make India the skill capital of the world, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Telecommunication (DoT) to develop and implement National Action Plan for Skill Development in Telecom Sector.
2. Thirteen FDI proposals totaling Rs 6,500 crore got clearance from the foreign investment promotion board (FIPB). Telecom tower firm Viom Networks' Rs 5,900 crore proposal was one of them.
3. Eminent tabla player Pandit Shankar Ghosh passed away. He was 80 years old.
4. Star Sports Pro Kabaddi signed Telugu star Rana Daggubati as their brand ambassador for the third season.
5. Noted environmentalist Ravi Chellam took charge as the Executive Director of Greenpeace India, a Non-Government Organisation (NGO).Prior to joining Greenpeace, he has worked with the Wildlife Institute of India and United Nations Development Programme.
6. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar hoisted the largest flag of the country atop the tallest pole at Pahari Mandir in Ranchi. The flag is 66 feet in height, 99 feet in width and hoisted on a 293 feet-tall pole.
7. The first test run of Rs.5,180 crore Kochi Metro rail project was flagged off by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the presence of 'Metro Man' E. Sreedharan at the Muttom railway yard.
8. Indian- Origin Rahul Thakkar has bagged the Oscar Award in Technical category. Rahul has been given award for his contribution in cinema through ‘groundbreaking design’. He shares the award with Richard Chuang in the category of ‘groundbreaking design’.
9. Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways, inaugurated the Wi-Fi service as a part of an ambitious project towards Digital India initiative by Indian Railways with the help of RailTel Corporation in collaboration with Google. After the inauguration of Wi-Fi service, Mumbai Central station has gained the distinguished status of being the first ever station in India to have high – speed internet facility.
10. West Indies batting great Shivnarine Chanderpaul has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a stellar career of 22 years.
