National Human Trafficking Awareness Day- Jan 11

  • National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11 raises awareness of the persistent issue of human trafficking.
  • Though the entire month of January has already been recognized as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, this day is specifically dedicated to awareness and prevention of the illegal practice.
  • This holiday is also separate from the World Day Against Trafficking Persons, as established by the United Nations.
  • Since the Senate established this day of observance in 2007, it has drawn massive public support from individual donations to government-organized events.
  • In 2010, President Obama dedicated the entire month of January to awareness and prevention of human trafficking.
  • There are over 50 established organizations that globally combat this illegal practice, and more awareness has been raised than ever before.

National Youth Day- 12th Jan:

  • National Youth Day is observed to honour the ideals and thoughts of Swamiji Vivekananda who had tremendous faith in youth.
  • In India, the National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
  • Vivekananda always highlighted the role of youth in the process of nation-building and inspired them to have a confident attitude.
  • In 2022, we are observing the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand (12 January 1863).
  • The theme for National Youth Day 2022 is “It’s all in the mind.”
  • The decision to celebrate Vivekananda’s birthday as National Youth Day was taken in 1984, and it was first marked on January 12, 1985.
  • The government had then said that the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked “could be a great source of inspiration” for the Indian youth.

  • Hindi is a matter of pride for every Indian and Hindi lover.
  • The popularity of Indian languages on the global stage is encouraging.

India, South Korea agree to impart ‘fresh momentum’ in CEPA up-gradation talks:

  • India stressed the need for fast-tracking the upgradation process of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with South Korea and raised issues of concern such as the large trade deficit and industry’s demand for greater market access and lower non-tariff barriers.
  • India’s exports from South Korea in 2020-21 were at $4.2 billion while imports from the country were at $9.5 billion.
  • New Delhi has been complaining about Indian businesses gaining far less from the CEPA than their South Korean counterparts and the need for up-gradation of the pact in a way that favours India and reduces the trade gap.

Indian economy to grow at 8.3 percent during current financial year and 8.7 percent in next fiscal: World Bank

  • World BankIndian economy is expected to grow at 8.3 percent in the current financial year.
  • It has upgraded India’s GDP growth for the next fiscal to 8.7 percent, reflecting higher investment from the private sector and in infrastructure, and dividends from ongoing reforms.
  • In its latest Global Economic Prospects, World Bank, the growth outlook will also be supported by ongoing structural reforms, a better-than-expected financial sector recovery, and measures to resolve financial sector challenges despite ongoing risks.
  • Global economic growth will dip to 4.1 percent in current financial year and 3.2 percent in the next fiscal.

IEPFA signs MoU with IGNOU for promoting Investor Education and Financial literacy through Gyan Darshan channel:

  • Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority, IEPFA, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Indira Gandhi National Open University to propagate Investor Education, Awareness and Protection among a large group of present and prospective stakeholders by utilizing the tele-lecturing facility of Gyan Darshan Channel.
  • Signing of the MoU took place virtually in New Delhi.
  • The proposed lecture series of 75 episodes will be a live tele-lecturing series on 24×7 Gyan Darshan TV channel.
  • Experts for the lecture series would come from renowned professional institutions and senior officials from IEPFAMinistry of Corporate Affairs and other regulators would also deliver lectures on various investment-related topics.

Vodafone Idea board approves 35.8% equity allotment to Government 

  • The Board of Directors of Vodafone Idea Ltd, has decided to convert interest on deferred spectrum and adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues into equity.
  • The Net Present Value (NPV) of this [spectrum auction installments and AGR dues] interest is expected to be about 16,000 crore as per the company’s best estimates, subject to confirmation by the DoT.
  • The Indian government will hold around 35.8 percent of the total outstanding shares of the company and the promoter shareholders would hold around 28.5 per cent (Vodafone Group) and around 17.8 per cent (Aditya Birla group) respectively.
  • Vodafone Idea Ltd accepted a four year moratorium on spectrum and AGR dues.

India Successfully Test Fires BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

  • India successfully test-fired an extended range sea-to-sea variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Indian Navy’s INS Visakhapatnam warship.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the missile hit the designated target “precisely”.

About BrahMos supersonic cruise missile :

  • BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India and Russia.
  • The aerospace company produces the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms.
  • This version of the missile has been designed to launch either in a vertical or a horizontal mode from moving/stationary assets to target both land and sea targets.
  • BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.
  • BrahMos, deployed by the Navy on its warships first in 2005, has the capability to hit sea-based targets beyond radar horizon.
  • The naval variant was originally tested in October and December 2020 from the Navy’s indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai and Rajput-class destroyer INS Ranvijay, respectively.

  • Mr Sassoli left a three-decade career in journalism & he was first elected as a member of the European Parliament (MEP) in 2009 and speaker in 2019.
  • He served as the president of the European Parliament from 3 July 2019 until his death in January 2022.
