1st October: International Day of the Older Persons
- The International Day of Older Persons is celebrated on October 1 each year to increase awareness about the importance of ageing and promote the rights of older persons.
- The overall umbrella theme for the United Nations International Day of Older Persons in 2022 is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.”
- The International Day of Older Persons was declared by the UN General Assembly on December 14, 1990 (resolution 45/106).
- This was preceded by programs like the Vienna International Plan of Action on Aging, which was approved by the UN General Assembly and the World Assembly on Ageing in 1982.
