1. Senior IAS officer Rajiv Kumar appointed as new Finance Secretary

Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Rajiv Kumar(1984 batch- Jharkhand cadre) has been appointed as the new Finance Secretary.

The approval was given by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He succeeded Subhash Chandra Garg (1983 batch IAS- officer), who is currently the power secretary.

Currently, Mr Rajiv Kumar is serving as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.

1. Anandiben Patel takes oath as Governor of Uttar Pradesh

Anandiben Patel (77-years) took oath as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Justice of the High Court, Govind Mathur, administered herthe oath of Office and Secrecy at Raj Bhawan in Lucknow.

On the 20th of this month, President Ram Nath Kovind had appointed Anandiben Patel as the new Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, she was serving as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

Ms Patel will be the second woman Governor of the state after Sarojini Naidu.

Note:

The governors (exist in the states) and lieutenant-governors/administrators (union territories and in the NCT of Delhi) of the states and union territories of India have similar powers and functions at the state level as that of the President of India at Union level.

The governor acts as the nominal head whereas the real power lies with the Chief ministers of the states and his/her councils of ministers.

1. IPS officer VK Johri appointed as new BSF DG

IPS officer VK Johri (1984-batch - Madhya Pradesh cadre) has been appointed as the next Director-General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF).

He will succeed Rajni Kant Misrawho retires on 31st of July 2019.

Currently, Mr. Johri is serving as the Special Secretary in RAW, under the Cabinet Secretariat.

Note:

The BSF is the country's largest border guarding force (present strength of about 2.5 lakh personnel) and is tasked to secure two of India's most important and sensitive fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The two other border guarding forces are ITBP (China) and SSB(Nepal and Bhutan).

1. Russia honours PM Narendra Modi with 'Order of St Andrew the Apostle'
Russia on April 12, 2019 announced that it had honoured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi
with the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, the highest order of the Russian Federation, for
promoting partnership and friendly relations between the two countries.


PM Modi has been decorated with the order for exceptional services in promoting a special and
privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and friendly relations between the
Russian and Indian people. The information was shared by the Russian Embassy in India.
