B.R. Ambedkar Remembrance Day: Observed on Apr 14
- Ambedkar Remembrance Dayis also known as Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti which is observed on 14 April to commemorate the memory of B.R Ambedkar.
- This day celebrates the birthday of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, an Indian politician, and social rights activist.
- It marks Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birthday that was born on 14 April 1891.
- Ambedkarstruggled for equality throughout his life and thus, his birthday is celebrated as ‘Equality Day’ in the country.
- He was a world-class lawyer, social reformer and number one world-class scholar as per the Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India.
- The public holidayhas been declared by invoking powers under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
- The centre had made a similar announcement in 2020 when it had declared April 14th as a national holiday.
- This year will be Dr. BR Ambedkar’s 130th birth anniversary.
