International Mother Earth Day -22 April
- Earth Day is observed on April 22 aims to spread awareness about issues, including pollution, deforestation and global warming.
- The theme for Earth Day 2022 is “Invest In our Planet” calling for businesses to shift towards sustainable practices.
- The United Nations celebrates the day as International Mother Earth Day.
- It will mark the day with a “Harmony with Nature” theme.
- Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970.
- Notably, World Earth Day was earlier decided to be celebrated on March 21, 1970, as the day one of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Thereafter, US Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed to hold nationwide environmental enlightenment on April 22, 1970, which was later renamed ‘Earth Day.
