AIIMS Delhi became first Indian hospital to house fire station inside premises

• Director Dr Randeep Guleria stated The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi, has become the first hospital in India to house a fire station inside the hospital premises.
• Making the announcement at a function to mark the 75th Independence Day, he informed that the AIIMS has joined hands with the Delhi Fire Service for the purpose.
• The fire station, meant for quick response in case of fire emergency, will have its infrastructure developed by the AIIMS, while the fire tender, equipment, and manpower will be managed by the DFS.

World Organ Donation Day – Observed on Aug 13

• August 13 of every year is observed as World Organ Donation Day aimed at raising awareness about the importance of organ donation and encourages people to take a pledge for the same.
• One person can save up to eight lives from chronic illness by pledging to donate their heart, kidney, pancreas, lungs, liver, intestines, hands, face, tissues, bone marrow, and stem cells.
• Hence the day strives to help people in realizing that volunteering to donate their organs after death can be life-changing for many.
• The first-ever organ donation was done in 1954 when Ronald Lee Herrick donated a kidney to his identical twin brother.
• Doctor Joseph Murray conducted the procedure for which he has also won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1990 for advances in organ transplantation.

• In 1999, the United Nations decided to commemorate International Youth Day every year on August 12.

Twitter in compliance with new IT Rules 

• The Centre told the Delhi High Court that Twitter was prima facie in compliance with the new Information Technology Rules by appointing a Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), Resident Grievance Officer (RGO) and Nodal Contact Person on permanent basis.
• Justice Rekha Palli, who was hearing a petition alleging non-compliance of IT Rules by the US-based microblogging site, sought an affidavit from the Centre to bring its stand on record within two weeks.

Nagasaki Day Observed on August 9

• Nagasaki Day is observed on 9 August.
• In 2021, the world is observing the 76th anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing.

Aim :

• To promote peace politics and raise awareness of the effects of the bomb attack on Nagasaki.
• This day plays an important role as it focuses on anti-war and anti-nuclear demonstrations in many countries.
• The bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was code-named the ‘Fat Man’, due to the design of the bomb as it had a wide, round shape.
• It is the second city after Hiroshima to be attacked by a nuclear bomb.
• An area of about 5 square miles was completely obliterated and around 65,000 people were killed in the bombing.

Hiroshima Day – Observed on Aug 06

• August 6, 2021, observed solemnly as Hiroshima Day around the world, will be the 76th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city in the final year of World War II. 
• On this day in 1945, the United States dropped the very first deployed nuclear bomb in the city of Hiroshima, wiping out an estimated 39 per cent of the population, most of whom were civilians.

First Gold Medal For India In Olympics 2021: Neeraj Chopra Wins Historic Gold Medal

First Gold Medal For India In Olympics 2021: This Saturday is a historic day for India. Neeraj Chopra won the first gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020 for India in the men’s javelin throw event on 7th August 2021. Neeraj has become the second Indian to win an individual gold medal in Olympics after shooter Abhinav Bindra. Neeraj serves as Junior Commissioned Officer in Indian Army, will throw the spear as long as possible in the final event. Neeraj won the First Gold Medal For India In Olympics 2021 in the men’s javelin throw event with a remarkable throw of 87.58m in his second attempt. He is the first athlete from India to win an Olympic medal after 120 years.

Neeraj’s gold took India’s medal count to 7 at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The 23 years Neeraj satisfied many of the Indian’s dreams to win Gold Medal For India In Olympics 2021. He is a role model for today’s youth. He made us all proud with his incredible performance. As of now, 7 medals were bagged by India with 2 Silver medals and 4 bronze medals, and 1 Gold medal.

Central Govt extends ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ up to 2025

• The Government of India has extended the duration of ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ up to the year 2025, MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Sushri Pratima Bhoumik.
• This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 5, 2016.
• The objective of the ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ is to facilitate loans from Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) of value between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore to at least one SC or ST borrower and one woman borrower per bank branch for setting up green field enterprise in manufacturing, service or trading sector.

Ladakh: 1st UT to achieve 100% first dose coverage
