World Pulses Day -10 February:

  • World Pulses Day is celebrated on February 10 every year and recognised Pulses as a global food.
  • World Pulses Day 2022 is under the theme “Pulses to empower youth in achieving sustainable agri-food systems”.
  • Pulses, also known as legumes, are the edible seeds of leguminous plants cultivated for food.
  • Dried beans, lentils, and peas are the most commonly known and consumed types of pulses.
  • The UN General Assembly in 2019 decided to dedicate a day to Pulses to increase awareness and access to pulses globally known as World Pulses Day.

Union Minister of Power, R K Singh has launched Powerthon-2022:

  • Union Minister of Power, R K Singh has launched Powerthon-2022, a hackathon competition to find technology-driven solutions to solve the complex problems in power distribution and to ensure quality and reliable power supply.
  • The competition will bring together qualified mentors with TSPs, innovators, and other participants to create teams for efficient electricity networks.
  • He also encouraged technologists to come forward not only with solutions to existing problems but also with other problem statements and ideas for reliable power supply.
  • REC Limited, in collaboration with SINE, IIT Bombay, has announced the launch of the Powerthon-2022.

PM to participate in the high level segment of One Ocean Summit:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the high-level segment of One Ocean Summit on 11th February through a video message.
  • The high-level segment of the Summit will also be addressed by several Heads of States and Governments including Germany, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Canada, among others.
  • One Ocean Summit is being organised by France from 9-11 February, in Brest, France, in cooperation with the United Nations and the World Bank.
  • The objective of the Summit is to mobilise the international community to take tangible action towards preserving and supporting healthy and sustainable ocean ecosystems.

President of India opens Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Annual “Udyanotsav”:

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, opened the annual “Udyanotsav” of Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 10, 2022.
  • The main attraction of this year’s Udyanotsav will be 11 varieties of Tulips which are expected to bloom in phases during February.
  • Flower Carpets in magnificent designs will also be on display in the Central Lawns. The dominant colour scheme of this year’s ornamental flowers is white, yellow, red and orange.
  • A small cactus corner has also been landscaped along with some air purifying plants in the gardens.

AAI and Other Airport Developers have targeted capital outlay of Rs. 91000 crore for the development of airport sector:

  • AAI and other Airport Developers have targeted capital outlay of approximately 91000 crore in airport sector in the next five years for expansion and modification of existing terminals, new terminals and strengthening of runways, among other activities.
  • Under the Greenfield Airports Policy-2008, Government of India has so far accorded ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up of 21 Greenfield Airports across the country.
  • Out of these, eight airports namely Durgapur, Shirdi, Sindhudurg, Pakyong, Kannur, Kalaburagi, Oravakal and Kushinagar have been operationalized.

Government has set a target to raise the share of natural gas in energy mix to 15% by 2030:

  • The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Rameswar Teli, the Government has set a target to raise the share of natural gas in energy mix to 15% by 2030.
  • At present, share of natural gas in primary energy mix has increased from 6.3% to 6.7% from 2020 to 2021.
  • Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) grants authorization to the entities for the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Geographical Areas (GAs) as per PNGRB Act, 2006 and Regulation framed there under.
  • Establishment of CNG stations and providing PNG connections are part of development of CGD network and the same is done by the authorized CGD entities in their authorized GAs as per the Minimum Work Plan (MWP).

ReNew Power commissions Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project  

  • ReNew Power has set up Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project at the Chlor-Alkali unit of Grasim Industries in Vilayat, Bharuch, in southern Gujarat.
  • The first phase of the hybrid project, with 6 MW commercial-scale wind-solar, commenced operations last week and is expected to generate 80 million units of renewable energy every year.
  • An additional 68 MW will be commissioned in the fiscal 2022-23 period as part of the second phase.
  • The project is being developed by ReNew Green Solutions (RGS), the B2B arm of ReNew Power.
  • Once both phases are commissioned, the combined capacity of 34.28 MW is expected to generate a total of approximately 160 million units of renewable electricity annually, mitigating a cumulative 150,000 tCO2e (carbon emission) a year.
  • Both phases together have a total investment of INR 3.82 billion (US$51 million) through an equity partnership.
  • Both the parties have entered into a 25-year PPA, which will see the project supply power for the plant at Vilayat, Bharuch, via an Open Access mechanism.

J&K becomes the first Union Territory to be integrated with National Single Window System

  • Jammu & Kashmir became the first Union Territory to be onboarded the National Single Window System (NSWS), a move that was dubbed as a major leap in Ease of Doing Business in the UT.
  • Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha launched the J&K Single Window Clearance System integrated with NSWS yesterday in the presence of Shri Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, Govt of J&K, Ms. Sumita Dawra, Additional Secretary, DPIIT, Shri Ranjan Thakur, Principal Secretary Industries & Commerce, Govt of J&K.
  • NSWS is linked with India Industrial Land Bank (IILB) which hosts 45 industrial parks of J&K. This will help Investors to discover available land parcels in J&K.
  • NSWS will eliminate the need for investors to visit multiple platforms/offices to gather information and obtain clearances from different stakeholders.
  • Currently 142 central approvals can be applied through the NSWS portal.
  • 20 Ministries / Departments have been integrated in NSWS including Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare amongst others.
  • 14 States/UTs onboarded on NSWS include Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • The NSWS, a 2020 budgetary announcement of the Government of India, is a digital platform that serves as a guide for investors to identify and to apply for approvals as per their business requirements.
  • The platform was soft launched in September 2021 by the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Textiles and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal.
  • Currently, the module hosts more than 3,000 approvals across Centre & States.
  • Now , the NSWS portal has 16,800 visitors, out of which 7,500 KYA journeys have been serviced. More than 1,250 investors are registered on the portal.

Invest Rajasthan Campaign: MoUs worth Rs 3.05 lakh cr signed in renewable energy sector

  • The Rajasthan government signed MoUs/LoIs with major players in the renewable energy sector capturing investment of Rs 3.05 lakh crore under the Invest Rajasthan Campaign.
  • The companies included 5 PSUs – NTPC, NHPC, SJVN Limited, THDC India Ltd and SECI and private players such as Reliance, Axis and SAEL.
  • The expected investment is worth Rs. 3.05 lakh crores which include Renewable Energy projects of 92.1 GW capacity and 4GW Solar Module manufacturing.
  • Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Pvt Ltd, the nodal department for Renewable Energy with Bureau of Investment Promotion, the state nodal agency for investment promotion will coordinate with the investors
  • Reliance New Energy Solar Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, signed an LoI for investing Rs 1 lakh crore for generation of 20,000 MW solar power.
  • The largest investment of the company is likely to come up across one lakh acres in five districts – Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore and
  • NTPC signed an LoI for investment of Rs 40,000 crore to generate 10 GW.

Cochin Shipyard delivers 3 vessels to BSF

  • The Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) delivered the three Floating Border Out-Post (FBOPs) vessels to the Border Security Force (BSF).
  • With this, the Shipyard has delivered six vessels out of nine FBOPs being built for the BSF.
  • The vessels, which were flagged off on Republic Day from Kochi, reached the area of operations for deployment at the waters in Sundarbans near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
  • CSL General Manager A Sivakumar signed the delivery and protocol documents with Kumal Mazumdar, the DIG of BSF, in a function held at Kolkata.
  • The 46-m-long FBOPs have been built for the water wing of the BSF.
  • These vessels are designed in-house by CSL & classed by Indian Register of Shipping.
  • FBOP is designed with stowage arrangements for four fast patrol boats, which can be launched and hoisted using its own davit system.
  • The vessels will act as a floating base for the flotilla of fast patrol boats and will supply petrol, fresh water and provisions to the smaller boats and are to be deployed on India’s eastern and western borders to protect Indian territory.
