Financial Literacy week 2022: February 14-18:
- The Reserve Bank of India will observe February 14 to18, 2022 as Financial Literacy week 2022.
- The Financial Literacy Week is an initiative by RBI to promote awareness on key topics every year through a focused campaign.
- Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been conducting Financial Literacy Week (FLW) every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a particular theme across the country.
- The theme of Financial Literacy week 2022 is: “Go Digital, Go Secure”.
- The theme is aligned with one of the strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education: 2020-2025.

India Targets 1.2 Billion Ton Coal Production By 2023-24:
- A target of all India coal production of 1.2 Billion Tonne upto the year 2023-24 has been fixed.
- Auction of commercial mining on Revenue Sharing Mechanism was launched on 18.06.2020.
- Under this scheme, total of 2 tranches have been successfully completed.
- From these two tranches total of 28 coal mines have been successfully auctioned for which Vesting order have been signed for 27 coal mines.
- Coal India Limited (CIL) has envisaged a coal production programme of one Billion Tonne from CIL mines.
- CIL has taken the following steps to achieve the target of augmentation of coal production capacity.
Centre allocates 8 LMT food grains to all States/UTs under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme:
- The Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey informed that in pursuance to the economic measures announced by the Government under the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat Package’ in May 2020.
- This Department had allocated 8 LMT food grains to all States/UTs under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme (ANBS) for free of cost distribution to the migrants/stranded migrant persons and those neither covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) nor under any State PDS scheme, at the scale of 5 kg per person per month for a period of 2 months of May and June 2020.
- All States/UTs had collectively estimated a total of about 2.8 Crore such needy persons and had lifted a total of about 6.4 LMT food grains from the FCI Depots/Central Stocks.
NITI Aayog and USAID Collaborate to Accelerate Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship in India:
- Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and the S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new partnership under the Sustainable Access to Markets and Resources for Innovative Delivery of Healthcare (SAMRIDH) initiative.
- This new partnership announced will enhance SAMRIDH’s efforts to reach vulnerable populations, leveraging AIM’s expertise in innovation and entrepreneurship.
- AIM and SAMRIDH will leverage philanthropic capital, and public sector resources to offset barriers for commercial investments in small and medium health enterprises to invest in and scale healthcare solutions.
- The collaboration will focus on innovations across the healthcare landscape with the common goal to mount an effective response to the ongoing third wave of COVID-19 and build health system preparedness for future infectious disease outbreaks and health emergencies.
NITI Aayog announces 5 most improved aspirational districts in Agriculture,Water Resources sector:
- NITI Aayog has announced the five most improved aspirational districts in the Agriculture and Water Resources sector for December 2021.
- Malkangiri in Odisha tops the list.
- It is followed by Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.
- Ramgarh in Jharkhand and Begusarai in Bihar also feature in the list.
- This is as per NITI Aayog’s Delta Rankings.

West Bengal Govt Starts Open-air Classroom ‘Paray Shikshalaya’
- The West Bengal government launched an open-air classroom programme called Paray Shikshalaya ( Neighborhood Schools) for primary and pre-primary students ( Classes 1 to 7 ).
Goal of the Project :
- To encourage students who were forced to drop out of school because of the Covid-19 outbreak to return to school.
- The Bengal government has decided to get children accustomed to the physical classes.
- Initially, the campaign was aimed at pupils in primary schools (1 to 5).
- Mid-day meals have also been arranged for students taking classes in the neighborhood.
- Under the ‘Paray Shikshalaya’ initiative, the classes will be held in open ground.
- The para teachers and primary school teachers would be part of the project and will provide elementary education to Class 1-5.
- Classes were held in neighborhood parks and grounds for schools without open-air venues.
- Local councils and MLAs assisted in the establishment of infrastructure in such parks, such as the erection of temporary shades and seats, as well as the provision of mid-day meals for the students.

RBI extends restrictions on Karnataka’s Millath Co-Operative Bank
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the restrictions on Karnataka’s Millath Co-Operative Bank, Devangere, by another three months till May 7, 2022.
- Accordingly, the Reserve Bank of India, in the exercise of powers vested in it under sub-section (1) of Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
- As per the directions issued first on May 10, 2019, withdrawals were capped at Rs 1,000 from any account.
- The directions have been periodically extended till now.
- The other terms and conditions of the directives will remain unchanged during the latest three-month extension.
- The directions also include no new loans, new investments or taking on any new liabilities, including borrowing of funds or paying any other liabilities, sans RBI approval.

PM CARES Fund Corpus Triples To Rs 10 990 Cr In FY 2020-21
- According to the latest audited statement of PM CARES Funds, the total corpus under the PM CARES Funds in 2020-21 was Rs 10,990.17 crore & Rs 3,976.17 crore was spent from the fund in 2020-21.
- The fund’s closing balance as of March 31, 2021, stood at Rs 7,013.99 crore, more than double of Rs 3,076.62 crore.
- While Rs 1,000 crore was allotted to states and Union territories for the welfare of migrants, Rs 1,392.82 crore was spent on the procurement of 6.6 crore doses of Covid vaccines.

Dr. Unnikrishnan Nair has been appointed as director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center
- Unnikrishnan Nair S has been appointed as the new director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
- He will replace S Somanath, who recently took over as the chairman of ISRO.
About Dr. Unnikrishnan Nair :
- Nair has BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala University, ME in Aerospace engineering from IISc, Bengaluru and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT(M), Chennai.
- He started his career in VSSC Trivandrum in 1985, has made significant contributions in launch vehicle mechanisms, acoustic protection systems and payload fairing areas during his tenure.
- In January 2019, Nair took over as the first director of Human Space Flight Center, Bengaluru, which is spearheading the Gaganyaan programme.
- He will continue to hold this position along with his new role at the VSSC.
- Nair was the Member-Secretary of the study team for Space Capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE) and deputy project director of SRE for Deceleration and Recovery systems.
- He was associated with the development of recovery systems for SRE and involved in the recovery of SRE capsule from sea.
- He has been associated with the Human Spaceflight Programme since its inception as the project director for technology development activities.
- He was also the Payload Director for CARE [Crew module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment].
- He served as deputy director, Structures Entity of VSSC till January 2017 concurrently with human space flight technology development.
- He led the team for the technology development of Crew Escape System and was its Mission Director for the Pad Abort Test held on July 5, 2018.

- The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to support its ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign, an initiative about the energy and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

- ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ (literally, My Earth) is an initiative of the Government of Maharashtra’s Environment and Climate Change Department initiative to empower citizens with knowledge on the impacts of climate change and environmental issues and encourage them to make a conscious effort towards improvement of the environment.
- The new partnership between the UN Environment Programme and the Government of Maharashtra will support the state in the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.
- UNEP will support the state in educating and mobilising youth on plastic pollution and marine litter through UNEP’s Tide Turner Challenge across all educational institutes in Maharashtra.

Praveen Kumar Sobti, Mahabharat’s Bheem, dies at 74:
- Mahabharat actor-athlete Praveen Kumar Sobti, who played the role of Bheem in the series, and also winning an Asian Games gold medal passed away at the age of 74.
- He was also suffering from financial crisis in his last days.
- He represented the country across various athletic events in hammer and discus throw and even won four medals at the Asian Games, including two gold medals in 1966 and 1970.
- Praveen Kumar Sobti also won a silver medal in Hammer Throw during the 1966 Commonwealth Games.
- The athlete gained further popularity after he began his acting career and was featured as Bheem in BR Chopra’s classic “Mahabharat” in 1988.
