Ministry of Civil Aviation notifies drone certification scheme:
- The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has notified a drone certification scheme to ensure minimum safety and quality requirements so as to boost indigenous manufacturing.
- The drone certification scheme was notified on January 26.
- The drone certification scheme notified on January 26, 2022, under Rule 7 of the liberalized Drone Rules, 2021 will help in simpler, faster and transparent type-certification of drones.

26 January – International Customs Day
- January 26 is celebrated as the International Customs Day (ICD).
- It is the day designated to honour the custom officials and agencies for their function in taking care of the flow of goods across the world borders.
- This year, the theme chosen by WCO for ICD is ‘Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem’.
- The day was instituted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to commemorate the day in 1953 when the inaugural session of the Customs Cooperation Council (CCC) was held in Brussels, Belgium.
- In 1994 the CCC was renamed World Customs Organization (WCO).

India’s Republic Day 2022:
- India marks January 26 as its Republic Day every year. In 2022, the country is celebrating its 73rd Republic Day.
- On this day, the country’s President hoists the flag at Rajpath, New Delhi.
- The ceremonious event also showcases India’s cultural and social heritage, parades and airshows by the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
- While India gained independence from the British Raj in 1947, it wasn’t until January 26, 1950, that the Indian Constitution came into effect, and India became a sovereign state, declaring it a republic.

12th National Voters’ Day to be celebrated on January 25, 2022

International Day of Education- Jan 24:
- The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
- The theme of 4th International Day of Education in 2022 is Changing Course, Transforming Education.
- The celebration is led by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
- The first-ever International Day of Education was celebrated on 24 January 2019 as per the resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 3rd 2018 to celebrate the role of education in development.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand statue to be installed at India Gate:
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has announced that a grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will be installed at India Gate.
- Till the grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is completed, the Prime Minister will unveil his Hologram statue on his birth anniversary on 23rd January, 2022.
- At a time when the entire nation is marking the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, his grand statue, made of granite, will be installed at India Gate.

TCIL launches first e-vehicle charging station in South Delhi
- TCIL, a Mini Ratna Status Company under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, with support of SDMC launched first e-vehicle charging station in South Delhi.
- The launch was inaugurated by Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture in the presence of Shri Sanjeev Kumar, CMD, TCIL & other dignitaries of area.
- This e-vehicle charging station is first one in series of 65 e-charging stations to be setup by TCIL in progressive manner in next four months in South Delhi area within easy reach of citizens of Delhi.

Finance Minister authorizes release of advance installment of tax devolution to State Governments amounting to Rs. 47,541 crores:
- Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has authorised the release of an advance installment of tax devolution to State Governments amounting to 47,541 crore.
- This is in addition to the regular devolution for the month of January 2022, also being released today.

CABINET APPROVALS:
Extension of tenure of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis for three years:
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the extension of the tenure of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) for three years beyond 31.3.2022.
- The total implication of the extension for three years would be approximately Rs.43.68 crore.
- The NCSK has been giving its recommendations to the Government regarding specific programmes for welfare of Safai Karamcharis, study and evaluate the existing welfare programmes for Safai Karamcharis, investigate cases of specific grievances etc..,

SCM, MoHUA launches ‘Open Data Week’:
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has announced the initiation of the Open Data Week to encourage adoption of open data and promote innovation across India’s urban ecosystem.
- Leading up to the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization’ conference scheduled to be held in Surat, during February 2022, the Open Data Week is part of a series of pre-event initiatives being undertaken by MoHUA to promote awareness and use of open data.
- It will be conducted during the third week of January, i.e., from 17th January 2022 to 21st January 2022.
- The Event aims to show the benefits of open data such as increased efficiency, transparency, a spur in innovation, and economic growth.
- It is divided into two segments – first, uploading of datasets, visualizations, APIs and data blogs on the Smart Cities Open Data Portal from 17th January 2022 to 20th January 2022 and second, celebration of a Data Day by all smart cities on 21st January 2022.
Pralhad Joshi Launches New Rehabilitation & Resettlement Policy of NLC India Ltd:
- Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi that NLC India Ltd, a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Coal has been playing a pivotal role in ensuring India’s energy security during the last six decades of performance.
- The Minister was virtually launching the new rehabilitation & resettlement (R& R) policy applicable to land owners of NLCIL mines area.
- Lauding the efforts of NLCIL and Tamil Nadu Government in framing a very flexible rehabilitation policy with multiple options available to the affected people, Minister Shri Joshi ensured that compensation to the affected villagers will be based on fair and transparent process.
- NLCL has signed an MOU with Tamil Nadu government to impart skill development to the youth under Skill India Mission.
- The new RR policy will pave the way for sustainable livelihood and make every village Atma Nirbhar.

Narayan Rane virtually inaugurates MSME Pavilion in World Expo, 2020 Dubai:
- Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister, Narayan Rane has virtually inaugurated MSME Pavilion in World Expo, 2020 Dubai.
- The World Expo 2020, held under the Bureau International des Expositions aims at bringing together millions of people for the world’s exceptional show, celebrating human brilliance and achievement with the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating Future”.
- The MSME Ministry’s participation in the Expo will help to develop an understanding of the MSME ecosystem in India as well as enable interaction with governments of different countries, Business and Industry leaders, which will help in exchange for best practices adopted across the world.
- Rane also launched the Khadi India Film produced by KVIC.
- It has over six crore units employing over 11 crore people and is a significant contributor to the economic growth of India

9th women National Ice Hockey Championship-2022 inaugurated: HP
- In Himachal Pradesh, the 9th women National Ice Hockey Championship-2022 was inaugurated at Ice Skating Rink, Kaza in Lahaul Spiti district.
- For the first time in the state, Ice Hockey competition and development camp is being organized at the national level.
- Teams from Himachal Pradesh, Telengana, Ladakh, ITBP Ladakh, Chandigarh and Delhi are participating in this mega event.
- First match of this event was played between Delhi and Himachal, in which Delhi won 4-0. In second match, Chandigarh defeated Telengana 1-0.
- It may be recalled that first Basic Ice Hockey ten days Coaching Camp was organized at Kaza in the year 2019 by State Youth Services and Sports Department, in collaboration with the Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation.
Purple Revolution is J&K’s contribution to Start-up India:
- The first National Start-up Day is being observed on Jan16th. The Prime Minister had announced that 16th January will be celebrated as National Start-Up Day
- “Purple Revolution” is Jammu and Kashmir’s contribution to Start-Up India.
- The Minister briefed about the Aroma Mission launched by the Science and Technology Ministry through the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) which has led to the “Purple Revolution” in India.
- The Minister informed that the CSIR had introduced high-value essential oil bearing lavender crop through its Jammu based laboratory, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines for cultivation in Doda, Kishtwar and Rajouri districts.
- Later, other districts including Ramban, and Pulwama were also added. He said that in a brief span of time, aroma and lavender cultivation has become a popular option in farming for agricultural Start-up.

DCB Bank’s board approves appointment of Rupa Devi Singh as Non-exec Chairman:
- The Board of Directors of DCB Bank has approved the appointment of Rupa Devi Singh, Independent Director, as Non-Executive Chairman of the Bank.
- This appointment, which was approved at the Board of Director meeting on January 14, 2022, is in view of the vacancy caused by retirement of Nasser Munjee from that position.
- Appointment of Singh as Non-Executive Chairman will be effective from the date of receipt of such RBI approval.
- According to DCB’s website, Singh has been a non-executive independent director of the Bank from January 22, 2015

Virat Kohli steps down as India’s Test captain
- On Jan 15, 2022, Virat Kohli stepped down from Test captaincy of the Indian team after the recently-concluded South Africa series.
- He had replaced MS Dhoni as the full-time captain in the 2014/15 season.
- With 40 wins in 68 matches, Kohli ends his captaincy stint as the most successful Indian Test captain.
- The 33-year-old had recently quit as T20 captain and was later sacked as ODI captain by the BCCI.
- He first led the national side in Test cricket in 2014 against Australia.
- In 2021, India also finished as the runners-up in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship.
- Recently, kohli had stepped down as India’s T20I captain and was subsequently removed as the ODI captain ahead of the South Africa tour.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu Passes Away
- Former Japanese Prime Minister Kaifu Toshiki passed away at the age of 91.
About Toshiki Kaifu :
- Toshiki Kaifu born on 2 January 1931 in Nagoya, Japan.
- In 1976, Kaifu joined the Cabinet of Prime Minister Fukuda Takeo as education minister.
- He served as the 77th Prime Minister of Japan from 1989 to 1991.
- In 1991 he sent the Maritime Self-Defense Force to the Persian Gulf in the wake of the Gulf War.
- He began his political career as a lawmaker secretary.
- He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1960 and went on to hold important government positions such as deputy chief Cabinet secretary as well as education minister until becoming Prime Minister in August 1989.
- He dedicated himself to tackling many policy challenges amid a turbulent international situation, including the outbreak of the Persian Gulf War.

SC appoints high-level committee under retired judge Indu Malhotra to investigate PM’s security breach:
- The Supreme Court has appointed former SC Judge, Indu Malhotra, as the Chairperson to head the inquiry committee, along with other members.
- The inquiry committee will look into the alleged security breach of Prime Minister’s Punjab visit on 5th January this year.
- A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, have passed the order.

- National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11 raises awareness of the persistent issue of human trafficking.

SC to set up high-level committee to inquire into security lapses during PM’s visit to Punjab:
- Supreme Court to constitute a high-level committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge to investigate lapses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab.
- A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli was hearing the plea filed by an organisation.
- Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab.

- January 10 is celebrated as World Hindi Day every year to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world.

Indian Oil s CSR initiative to help eliminate TB in Punjab & UP:
- IndianOil has committed to support the National TB elimination Program (NTEP) in India by providing an enabling environment through integrated and prioritised intervention with City Coordination Committees, District Health Societies, Technical support groups, etc., in each of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh and 23 districts in Punjab.
- The program’s key objective will be to screen and test the entire population of UP & Punjab every year for the next three years.

- Memorandum of Understanding between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management:
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management.
- The MoU seeks to put in place a system, whereby both India and Turkmenistan will be benefited from the Disaster Management mechanisms of each other and it will help in strengthening the areas of preparedness, response and capacity building in the field of Disaster Management.

- Union Science and Technology Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh has launched the theme of National Science Day 2022.
- The theme of this year is ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’.
- The National Science Day is observed every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of the Raman effect.
- Launching the theme in New Delhi, Singh expressed hope that through this all the institutions across the country will be able to chart out programmes to observe the day.

World Braille Day- Jan 4
- World Braille Day is an international day on 4 January and celebrates awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people
- The day is marked remembering the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille – for people with visual disabilities.
- Louis Braille was born on 4th January 1809 in the town of Coupvray in northern France.
- Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols

Defense minister Rajnath Singh unveils 27 border infrastructure projects
- Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 24 bridges and three roads, which have been built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in four states and two union territories.
- He listed the development of critical border infrastructure as a key priority to boost India’s overall military preparedness to confront any security challenge.
- Out of the 24 bridges, nine are in Jammu and Kashmir, five each in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, three in Uttarakhand and one each in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh & Out of the three roads, two are in Ladakh and one is in West Bengal.
- The bridges range from 20 meters to 140 meters in length.

PM releases 10th instalment of PM-KISAN:
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released 10th instalment of financial benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme via video conferencing.
- This enabled the transfer of an amount of more than Rs. 20,000 crore to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families.
- During the programme, Prime Minister also released equity grant of more than 14 crore to about 351 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), which will benefit more than 1.24 lakh farmers.
- Prime Minister interacted with FPOs during the event. Union Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Chief Ministers, LGs, Agriculture Ministers and farmers from several states were linked to the event.
- Interacting with FPO from Uttarakhand, the Prime Minister inquired about the choice of organic farming by them and the ways of certification of the organic products.

- Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) NITI Aayog has released the second edition of – ‘Innovations for You’- a compendium of innovations focused on agriculture featuring 70 startups supported by Atal incubation Centers (AICs) of AIM and ‘The Ingenious Tinkerers’ – a compendium on the innovations on technology featuring 41 innovations from Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) of India.
- As the nation rejoices the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav – 75th Year of Independence, both the books are celebration of the success stories of young innovators of India.
