Dear Readers,
As you all are aware, the Preliminary phase of IBPS Clerk VI was conducted on 26th and 27th November in four different slot on each day. The next set of exam is scheduled for 3rd and 4th December 2016. Today we are sharing an in depth analysis based on the exam conducted on the above mentioned dates. We hope the information would be helpful for the students appearing in the upcoming slots.
Pattern of the exam -
English Language
- Overall level of this section was Easy.
- 10 questions were asked from Reading Comprehension. The comprehension was story based. 2 - 3 vocabulary based questions (Synonym/Antonym), question based on appropriate title of the passage were asked in this topic. Almost 7 - 8 questions were easily doable.
- 10 questions were asked from Cloze Test. This topic again was story based. 8 - 9 questions were easily doable from this topic.
- Remaining 10 questions were asked from Spotting Errors. The questions from this topic were easy to moderate and mainly based on grammatical errors. 6 - 7 questions were doable from this topic.
Numerical Ability
- Overall level of this section was Easy.
- Questions were asked from the following topics -
Number series - 5 questions
Simplification / Approximation - 15 questions
Data Interpretation - 5 questions
Miscellaneous - 10 Questions - There were slight difference in the pattern of the series on both days. The series were based on the following patterns -
Addition in exponential form.
Multiplication based series.
Combination of Multiplication and Addition/Subtraction.
Alternating series was also asked on day 2 of the exam - Questions from simplification / approximation were easy to moderate. Some of the questions like square root based were a bit calculative but most of the questions were doable.
- Data Interpretation was asked from tabular graph in all the slots. The questions were mostly ratio, average and percentage based. 4-5 questions were easily doable from this topic.
- Remaining 10 questions were asked from the miscellaneous topics. These included Age based problems, Mixture & Allegation, Partnership, Pipes and Cisterns, Profit & Loss, Average based problems, Boats & Streams, Compound/Simple Interest, Time & Work etc. These questions were a bit calculative. 6 - 7 questions were doable from this topic.
Reasoning Ability
- Overall level of this section was again Easy.
- Questions were asked from the following topics -
Inequality - 5 questions
Seating Arrangement - 15 questions
Alphanumeric Series - 5 questions
Miscellaneous - 10 questions - Questions from inequality were direct. There were no coded inequality based questions. Almost all questions from this topic were easily doable.
- 3 sets of seating arrangement (15 questions) were asked which included 1 circular and 2 linear arrangement. Same pattern was followed for all the slots. The questions were simple (single parameter based). The arrangements were easily doable if one had enough practice.
- Questions from alphanumeric series were easy. Almost 3-4 questions were easily doable.
- Questions from the miscellaneous section basically involved Alphabet Coding, Blood relation, Direction based questions etc. Under alphabet coding, 4-5 sets comprising of 3-4 alphabets each were given, you had to rearrange them based on the conditions in the questions and then answer accordingly. 6 - 7 questions were doable from miscellaneous section.
Major Changes from Last Year -
- English Language Section was slightly different from last year. This time, there were no questions asked from Sentence improvement and Para Jumbles.
- Number of questions from Cloze test and Spotting errors were just double (10 questions each) as that of last year.
- 2 linear arrangements were asked this year in place of 1 arrangement as that of last year.
Note -
- There were no questions asked from Quadratic Equations.
- There were no questions asked from Syllogism.
- There were no questions asked from Sentence Improvement, Para Jumbles and Double Fillers.
- Given the pattern and level of the exam, we advise our readers to have thorough practice of the following topics in different sections since they might prove to be more scoring in the exam -
English Language -
Almost all 3 topics asked in this section were easily doable. But try to have a thorough practice of Cloze test and Spotting Errors.
Numerical Ability-

(b) Simplification/ Approximation
(c) Data Interpretation
Reasoning Ability -
(a) Inequality
(b) Seating Arrangements (both circular and Linear)
(c) Alphanumeric Series or Alphabet Coding - As per experiences shared by our readers, around 65 questions could be easily attempted within an hour's time.
