World Health Day- April 7^th

• April 7 is celebrated and observed as World Health Day.
• The day is celebrated annually in accordance with the World Health Organization’s aim to discuss health-related issues and to draw attention to specific health issues concerning people across the world.
• The theme for this year’s World Health Day is “Our Planet, Our Health”.
• World Health Day was one of the first official acts of the World Health Organization, which came into force on 7th April 1948.
• The first World Health Day was celebrated on 22 July in 1949 and the date was later changed to 7 April, in order to encourage student participation.
• In order to understand the history of World Health Day, it is important to look at the creation of the World Health Organization, which took place in 1945 at the United Nations Conference.

• The General Assembly of the United Nations agreed in 2019 to declare April 5th the International Day of Conscience, with the aim of creating conditions of stability and well-being and relationships based on respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction based on race, sex, language or religion.
• The year 2022 marks the third edition of the celebrations.
• This day serves to remind people to self-reflect, follow their conscience, and do the right things.
• This Day is observed every year on the 5th of April and the first International Conscience Day was observed in 2020.

• Capital markets regulator SEBI on Monday constituted a committee for reviewing and making recommendations for further strengthening of governance norms at stock exchanges and other market infrastructure institutions (MIIs).
• The development comes in the backdrop of alleged corporate governance lapses at NSE, with several issues coming to the fore following a SEBI order that disclosed existence of a ‘Himalayan yogi’ who influenced the decisions of the exchange’s former MD and CEO Chitra Ramkrishna.
• Apart from this, Ramkrishna had shared certain internal confidential information, including financial and business plans of NSE, dividend scenario, financial results with the yogi and even consulted him over the performance appraisals of the exchange’s employees.

IDRCL: stakes of canara bank, SBI, PNB, union bank reduced to 5%

What is the news:

• Four public sector lenders — State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India said their stakes in India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL) have come down to 5 per cent each.
• The bad bank or the National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) will acquire bad loans from banks to help clean up their books, while the IDRCL will handle the debt resolution process of these loans.
• With the current round of preferential allotment by IDRCL, equity stake of Canara Bank has now reduced to 5 per cent from previous holding of 14.90 per cent, the bank said in a regulatory filing.

• The IndianOil-L&T-ReNew JV will focus on developing Green Hydrogen projects in a time-bound manner to supply Green Hydrogen at an industrial scale.

• Now, all it takes for the court to do is a soft tap of the ‘send’ button and, may be, a couple of blinks of the eye after with ‘FASTER’, an abbreviation of ‘Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records’, a digital platform formally launched by Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana .
• The platform would be used by the court officials to instantly to send e-copies of the orders through a secured electronic communication channel to intended parties.
• These orders may vary from stay of execution of a person to freeze on the demolition of a slum to bail orders for undertrial prisoners.

• Country’s largest Bank, State Bank of India (SBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Border Security Force to offer special benefits to the serving and retired BSF personnel and family pensioners through the Central Armed Police Salary Package (CAPSP) Scheme.

About the MoU:

• The MoU will ensure extensive benefits to the security forces including complimentary Personal and Air Accidental Insurance (Death) cover, additional cover in case of on-duty death, and Permanent Total Disability / Partial Disability cover.
• The MoU will support child education and the marriage of girl children of deceased BSF personnel.
• The retired personnel will be eligible for complimentary Personal Accidental (Death) Insurance, irrespective of age, whereas family pensioners will be eligible for a bouquet of benefits.

RBI fixes WMA limit for states at Rs. 47010 crore.

What is the news:

• The limits for financial accommodation extended by the Reserve Bank of India to State Governments / Union Territories (UTs) through Ways and Means Advances (WMA), Special Drawing Facility (SDF) and Overdraft (OD) schemes were last reviewed and announcedin October 2021.
• Considering the uncertainties related to the ongoing pandemic, it was decided to continue with the higher WMA limit of ₹51,560 crore for all States, by a further period of six months i.e., up to March 31, 2022.
• On a review of the limits and keeping in view the gradual lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, it has been decided to revert to the WMA limits and timelines for OD for State Governments / UTs as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Ways and Means Advances to State Governments .
• These norms will be effective from April 01, 2022 and are subject to review.

 Maharashtra launches scheme to offer personal loans for prisoners

• Maharashtra government launched a scheme to provide personal loans for prisoners with the aim to improve the living standard of the families of the inmates.
• The Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank will give loans under the scheme up to Rs 50,000 at an interest rate of 7 per cent.
• The scheme will be implemented on a pilot basis at Yerawada Central Jail, Pune.
• Home minister of Maharashtra – Dilip Walse Patil.

About the scheme :

• It is the first innovative loan scheme in the country to get a loan based on the income earned while working in a prison.
• With this, a welfare scheme can come in concrete form and approximately 1,055 prisoners can benefit from the scheme. Many inmates are serving long-term imprisonment.

Simple Interest:

Formula:

1) SI = P x R x T/100 

2) Principal = Simple Interest ×100/ R × T

3) Rate of Interest = Simple Interest ×100 / P × T

4) Time = Simple Interest ×100 / P × R

5) If the rate of Simple interest differs from year to year, then

Simple Interest = Principal × (R1+R2+ R3…..)/100

The four variables in the above formula are: SI=Simple Interest P=Principal Amount (This the amount invested)T=Number of yearsR=Rate of interest (per year) in percentage

1). A sum of money is divided into n parts in such a way that the interest on the first part at r₁% for t₁ years, on the second part at r₂% for t₂ years, on the third part at r₃% for t₃years, and so on, are equal. Then the ratio in which the sum is divided in n part is:

1/r₁×t₁: 1/r₂ ×t₂: 1/r₃×t₃

Example:

A sum of Rs 7700 is lent out in two parts in such a way that the interest on one part at 20% for 5 yr is equal to that on another part at 9% for 6 yr. Find the two sums.

Solution:

Here, R1 = 20% R2 = 9%

T1 = 5 yr T2 = 6 yr

By using formula, ratio of two sums  = 1/100 : 1/54 = 27 : 50

Therefore, first part = [27/(27+50)]*7700 = Rs 2700

Second part = [50/(27+50)]*7700 = Rs 5000

 

2). Amount = Principal + S.I = p + [(p x r x t)/100]

• The foundation day of Odisha, known as Odisha Day, or Utkal Diwas will be observed on 1st April.
• The state of Odisha got its own identity as a separate state in the year 1936, after disassociating itself from Bihar and Bengal.
• The state was originally called Orissa but the Lok Sabha passed the Orissa Bill, and Constitution Bill (113rd amendment), in March 2011 to rename it Odisha.
• The region witnessed the epic “Kalinga War” led by King Ashoka who invaded and conquered the region in 260 BC.
• Later, the state was invaded and taken over by the Mughals till the British took over the administrative powers of the region and divided it into small units in 1803.

Centre extends import of Tur and Urad under ‘Free category’ for another year, till 31st March, 2023:

• The Centre has notified the decision to keep the import of Tur and Urad under ‘Free category’ till March 31, 2023.
• The Government had allowed the import of Tur, Urad, and Moong under the ‘Free category’ May 15, 2021, till October 31, 2021, in order to ensure smooth and seamless imports.
• The Free regime in respect of import of Tur and Urad was thereafter extended till March 31, 2022.
• This policy measure has been supported with facilitation measures and close monitoring of its implementation by the concerned Departments/organization.
• As per the official statistics of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the All India Average Retail Price of Tur Dal as reported on 28.03.2022 is Rs.102.99 per kilogram, which is a drop of 2.4% from the price of Rs. 105.46 per kilogram on 28.03.2021.
