PM Garib kalyan anna yojana has extended

What is the news :

  • In keeping with the concern and sensitivity towards poor and vulnerable sections of society,the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) scheme for another six months i.e., till September 2022 (Phase VI).
  • The Phase-V of PM-GKAY scheme was to end in March 2022. It may be recalled that the PM-GKAY has been under implementation since April 2020, as the largest food security program in the world.

Corpus :

  • The Government has spent approximately Rs. 2.60 Lakh Crore so far and another Rs. 80,000 Crore will be spent over the next 6 months till September 2022 taking the total expenditure under PM-GKAY to nearly Rs. 3.40 Lakh Crore.

Benefits :

This will cover nearly 80 crore beneficiaries across India and like before would be fully funded by the Government of India.

  • March 23 every year is observed as Shaheed Diwas to mark the death anniversary of Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar.
  • Also, 30 January is observed as Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • In 1928, Bhagat Singh plotted to kill a police officer to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai’s death.
  • Later, in 1929, Bhagat Singh and his associates dropped two bombs at the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi and allowed themselves to be arrested, while shouting the famous freedom struggle slogan, “Inquilab Zindabad”, or “Long live the revolution”.
  • It was on March 23, 1931, when the three were hanged to death in the Lahore Central Jail in British India (now Pakistan) by Britishers.

  • As the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim March 15 as International Day to Combat Islamophobia, India expressed concern over phobia against one religion being elevated to the level of an international day, saying there are growing contemporary forms of religiophobia, especially anti-Hindu, anti-Buddhist and anti-Sikh phobias.
  • The main objective of International Day to Combat Islamophobia will be curtailing systematic hate speech and discrimination against Muslims; respect for religious symbols and practices; along with the elimination of all forms of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief.
  • The 193-member UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, introduced by Pakistan’s ambassador Munir Akram under agenda item Culture of peace, to proclaim March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

BRO signs MoU with GRSE for construction of 27 double-lane class 70 modular bridges in border areas

What is the news :

  • Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for fabrication, supply, erection and launching of 27 carriageway double lane galvanised modular bridges of 7.5 meters with Indian Road Congress (IRC) Load Class 70.
  • The two-year contract, worth around Rs 60 crore, was inked by Director General BR Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry and Officiating Chairman & Managing Director of GRSE Commodore P R Hari IN (Retd) in New Delhi on March 15, 2022.

Key Highlights

  • The MoU includes fabrication, supply, erection and launching of 27 double-lane bridges of carriageway 7.5 meters of load class 70 along the Northern and North Eastern border states
  • It reinforces the commitment of BRO for greater self-reliance on indigenous equipment and achieving overall aim of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification – Inter-Country Non-Transport ( personal)  Vehicle Rules, 2022.
  • These rules propose to formalize the movement of Non-Transport ( personal)  vehicles registered in other countries when entering or plying in the territory of India.

The following documents shall be carried in the vehicle(s) operating under Inter-Country Non-Transport Vehicle Rules during the duration of stay in the country, namely:–

  • A valid registration certificate
  • A valid driving license or international driving permit, whichever is applicable;

  • A valid pollution under control certificate (if applicable in the origin country)

What is the news :

  • The U.N. General Assembly approved a resolution setting March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
  • UN-adopted resolution was introduced by Pakistan and marks the day when an Australian gunman killed 51 Muslim worshippers and wounded 40 others in 2019 New Zealand terror attacks.

About the resolution :

  • The resolution, adopted by consensus by the 193-member world body and cosponsored by 55 mainly Muslim countries, emphasizes the right to freedom of religion and belief and recalls a 1981 resolution calling for “the elimination of all forms of intolerance and of discrimination based on religion or belief.”
  • It expresses deep concern at “the overall rise in instances of discrimination, intolerance and violence, regardless of the actors, directed against members of many religions and other communities in various parts of the world, including cases motivated by Islamophobia, antisemitism, Christianophobia and prejudices against persons of other religions or beliefs.”
  • The resolution asks all countries, U.N. bodies, international and regional organizations, civil society, private sector and faith-based organizations “to organize and support various high-visibility events aimed at effectively increasing awareness of all levels about curbing Islamophobia,” and to observe the new International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

  • Ashwini Vaishnaw, the union minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, will inaugurate a seminar on “25 Years of TRAI Act: The Way Forward for Stakeholders (Telecom, Broadcasting, IT, AERA and Aadhaar)”.
  • The seminar will be organised by Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to commemorate the 25 years long journey of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act.
  • The objective of the seminar is to enhance awareness regarding regulatory mechanism, including dispute resolution, amongst stakeholders in Telecom, Broadcasting, IT, Airport Infrastructure and Aadhaar Sectors.

  • In the year 1969, the CISF was set up on March 10 and three battalions were formed under the CISF act 1968, which was passed by the Parliament of India.

  • It is one of the six paramilitary forces in India functioning under the Union Home Ministry.
  • The CISF was established on 10 March, 1969 after an Act was passed in the Parliament of India.

  • The CISF was made an armed force by a different act of Parliament, which was passed on 15 June, 1983.

1. MOU signed between the Indian Council of Medical Research, India and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft e.V. (DFG), Germany:

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft e.V. (DFG), Germany in December 2021 and in accordance with Rule 7(d)(i) of the Second Schedule of Government of India (Transaction of Business) rules 1961.
  • Cooperation in the field of medical sciences/health research in areas including Toxicology, Neglected (Tropical) disease, rare diseases and any other areas of mutual interest.
  • The cooperation in scientific research and technological development includes the joint funding of scientific research projects as well as the exchange of researchers, funding of joint seminars, symposia and workshops which would be of high scientific standard and beneficial to the advancement of science, significant from a scientific point of view.
