29th January:

  • Beating the Retreat event celebrated near the Rashtrapati Bhavan marking the end of the Republic Day celebrations.
  • In a report by the Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) of the US Chamber of Commerce, for the second consecutive year India has been ranked at the bottom of 25 countries in terms of protection and enforcement of intellectual property practices.

25th January:
  • Indian Govt announce 2 Padma Vibhushan, 24 Padma Bhushan and 101 Padma Shri Awardees. 27 of the Awardees are women.
  • Dr. Raghunath A. Mashelkar and BKS Iyengar awarded with Padma Vibhushan.
  • China's Li Na defeat Dominika Cibulkova by 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 victory to win her first Australian Open title and become the oldest woman ever to win the Australian Open at the age of 31.
24th January:

  • Legendary Telegu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao died in Hyderabad at the age of 90.
21st January:
  • Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal called off his dharna against Delhi Police.
  • Government has appointed senior IPS Aruna Bahuguna as the new chief of the Hyderabad-based National Police Academy. She is the first woman to be appointed chief of National Police Academy.
20th January:
  • India tested 4,000 km long range nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-IV missile from a military base in Odisha.
19th January:
  • Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first Indian wicketkeeper and the fourth overall to effect 300 dismissals in One Day Internationals.
  • Kenya's Evans Ruto and Dinknesh Mekash of Ethiopia win the 11th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on Men and Women category respectively.
