  • Ayesha Aziz, the 25-year-old from Kashmir who is the youngest female pilot in the country, acts as a source of inspiration and a beacon of empowerment for numerous Kashmiri women.
  • In the year 2011Aziz became the youngest student pilot to get a license at the age of 15 and underwent training to fly a MIG-29 jet at Russia’s Sokol airbase the following year.

Indian Coast Guard Day: Observed on Feb 01 

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will celebrate its 45th Raising Day on Feb 01.
  • The ICG is an armed force of India that protects maritime interests and enforces maritime law.
  • The ICG is headed by a Director-General, Vice-Admiral rank of the Indian Navy.
  • With just seven surface platforms in 1978, the ICG has grown into the fourth largest coast guard with 156 ships and 62 aircraft in its inventory.
  • The ICG has targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 80 aircraft by 2025.
  • Since its inception in 1977, the ICG has saved over 10,000 lives and apprehended around 14,000 miscreants, the agency said.

Cabinet approves MSP of copra at Rs 10,335 per quintal for 2021 season

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved Minimum Support Price (MSP) of copra at Rs 10,335 per quintal for 2021 season which is an increase of Rs 375 over 2020 rates.
  • The approval is based on recommendations of the
  • Briefing the media in Delhi, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said this will benefit millions of farmers engaged in copra farming and impact the farmers of 12 coastal states.
  • The MSP for ball copra has increased by Rs.300, to Rs. 10,600 per quintal for the 2021 season from 10,300 per quintal in 2020.

Finance Minister inaugurates Chennai Bench of NCLAT

  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Chennai Bench of National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) through virtual mode.
  • The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of Shri. Justice Bansi Lal Bhat, Acting Chairperson, NCLAT, Shri Rajesh Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, other members of NCLAT and the National Company Law Tribunals, officers of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Finance as well as members of the Bar.
  • The New Delhi Bench of NCLAT is the Principal Bench of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal established in
  • Five new Benches of NCLT have been announced at Jaipur, Cuttack, Kochi, Indore and Amaravati, bringing the total number of Benches to 16 (including the Principal Bench). The NCLAT now functions at a strength of 5 courts, 4 at the Principal Bench in New Delhi and the 5th at NCLAT, Chennai.
  • The Chennai Bench of NCLAT shall have jurisdiction to hear the Appeals arising out of the orders passed by the benches of NCLT having jurisdiction of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.

  • Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has been assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of AYUSH.
  • During the hospitalization and treatment of AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik following a road accident
  • The President has directed that this arrangement may continue till Mr Naik resumes his work related to the Ministry of AYUSH. 
  • The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed that during the hospitalization and treatment of Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH); and Minister of State in Ministry of Defence, following a road accident, his portfolio related to Ministry of AYUSH, be temporarily assigned to Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State (Independent Charge) in addition to his existing portfolios.”

MoRTH notifies Inter Country Transport Vehicles Rules 2021

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified Inter Country Transport Vehicles Rules, 2021 which would facilitate and regulate the movement of passenger and goods vehicles between India and neighbouring countries.
  • As per the rules, the State Transport Authority has been given the power to grant the Inter Country Transport Permit after thoroughly examining the application.
  • The permit will remain valid for a period of one year from the date of its issue and it will be renewable for a period of five years on a yearly basis.
  • The State Transport Department will take care of formalities like provisioning of tickets, debugging of bus, frisking or checking of passengers, handling of luggage before departure from the designated place. The frequency can be reviewed by the State Transport Department and it can be increased as per the demand.
  • The decision has been taken considering the requests made by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to notify rules under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 to facilitate movement of vehicles carrying goods and passengers between India and neighbouring countries.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates LNG truck-loading unit of Shell India in Gujarat

  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the LNG truck-loading unit of Shell India at Hazira, Gujarat. 
  • The unit will boost availability of natural gas in off-grid areas where there are no gas pipelines. It will also promote the use of LNG in long-haul trucking.
  • Increasing competition in the LNG sector will help in emergence of new markets, creating new employment opportunities, ensure cleaner fuels for industries and facilitate environment conservation.

Bhawana Kanth to become the 1st woman fighter pilot to take part in R Day parade

  • Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth is set to become the first woman fighter pilot to take part in the Republic Day parade.
  • She will be a part of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) tableau that will showcase mock-ups of the light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and the Sukhoi-30 fighter plane.
  • She is currently posted at an airbase in Rajasthan where she flies the MiG-21 Bison fighter plane.
  • Kanth is also one of the first women fighter pilots in the IAF.
  • She, along with Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh, was inducted into the IAF as the first women fighter pilots in 2016.
  • Ten women have been commissioned as fighter pilots after an experimental scheme for their induction into the IAF’s combat stream was introduced in 2015.

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation handed over MotorBike Ambulance Rakshita to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

  • It is a bike-based casualty transport emergency vehicle.
  • It was Developed by DRDO lab Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in New Delhi.
  • Rakshita is fitted with a customized reclining Casualty Evacuation Seat (CES), which can be fitted in and taken out as per requirement.
  • Other major features are the head immobilizer, safety harness jacket, hand and foot straps for safety, adjustable footrest, physiological parameter measuring equipment with wireless monitoring capability and auto warning system for the driver.

PM Modi rolls out world’s largest vaccination drive for COVID-19

  • India launched the much awaited, world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination programme.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the programme through video conferencing.
  • A total of 3006 session sites across all states and union territories will be virtually connected during the launch.
  • In the first phase government and private sector health care workers, including Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) workers, will receive the vaccine.
