Constitution Day being celebrated across the country

• Constitution Day is being celebrated across the country to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly. The day is also known as National Law Day and commemorates the adoption of the Constitution in India. On 26th November in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of the country formally adopted the Constitution of India which came into force on 26th January 1950.
• The constituent assembly took two years, eleven months and seventeen days to accomplish the stupendous task of drafting the historic document. It had many members who fought for the freedom of the country and came from different regions, religions, communities reflecting the country’s diversity.

National Milk Day: 26 November

• National Milk Day is celebrated across the country on November 26 every year on the birthday of Dr Verghese Kurien. This day marks the birth anniversary of Verghese Kurien, the Father of White Revolution in India. India is celebrating 98th birth anniversary of Dr Kurien this year.
• National Milk Day was established in 2014 by the Food and Agriculture Organisation to commemorate Dr. Verghese Kurien, who is considered the father of India’s White Revolution.

Cabinet approves infusion of 6000 crore rupees in NIIF; Lakshmi Vilas Bank to be merged with DBS Bank India Limited

• Union Cabinet has approved equity infusion by Government of  6000 crore rupees in NIIF Debt Platform sponsored by National Investment and Infrastructure Fund, comprising Aseem Infrastructure Finance Limited and NIIF Infrastructure Finance Limited. This was one of the twelve key measures made by the Finance Minister as part of Government’s stimulus to the economy, under AatmaNirbhar Bharat 3.0 on 12th November.
• NIIF Infrastructure Debt Financing Platform is expected to contribute nearly one lakh crore rupees in debt to the infrastructure sector over the next five years. This will act as a catalyst in attracting more investments into the infrastructure sector as envisaged in the National Infrastructure Pipeline.
• Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed that Cabinet has approved Scheme of Amalgamation of Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) with DBS Bank India Limited. He stated  with this, there will be no further restrictions on the depositors regarding withdrawal of their deposits.
• Cabinet was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the field of Physical Culture and Sport signed among BRICS Countries.
• Cooperation in the field of sports among the five countries will help in expanding knowledge and expertise in the area of sports science, sports medicine, and coaching techniques. This would result in improvement in performance of Indian sportspersons in international tournaments and strengthening of bilateral relations with BRICS member countries.
• Mr Javadekar also informed that CCEA has approved FDI of 2480 crore rupees in M/s. ATC Telecom Infrastructure Private Limited by M/s. ATC Asia Pacific pvt  Ltd.  This would lead to foreign direct investment inflow of 2480.92 crore rupees. The inflow of foreign investment to India will spur economic growth; as well as foster innovation.

PM Narendra Modi chairs 33rd PRAGATI interaction

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the PRAGATI meeting. It marked Prime Minister’s thirty-third interaction through PRAGATI – the ICT based multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, involving Central and State governments.
• During the meeting, multiple projects, grievances and programmes were reviewed. The projects taken up were of the Ministry of Railways, MORTH, DPIIT and Power Ministry. These projects, with a total cost of 1.41 lakh crore rupees, were related to ten states and union territories, including Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

All fixed to mobile calls to be dialed with prefix ‘0’ from Jan 15

• Communications Ministry has stated all Fixed to Mobile calls will be dialed with prefix ‘0’ from 15th January next year. There will be no change in dialing plan from fixed to fixed, mobile to fixed and mobile to mobile calls. Department of Telecommunications has taken the decision of implementing this with the consideration of TRAI Recommendation on “Ensuring Adequate Numbering Resources for Fixed Line and Mobile Services”.
• Suitable announcement will be made for the same. This announcement shall be played whenever a subscriber dials a fixed to mobile call without prefixing ‘0’. All fixed line subscribers will be provided with ‘0’ dialing facility.
• A total of approximately 2539 million numbering series is expected to be generated from this. This will free up sufficient numbering resources for future use. With the freeing up of sufficient numbering resources, more number of connections can be added in future which will be beneficial to the mobile customers at large.

NITI Aayog Forms Panel To Study Feasibility Of Hyperloop Tech In India

• Government think-tank NITI Aayog has formed a high-level panel to explore the technological and commercial viability of the Virgin Hyperloop technology for ultrahigh speed travel in India, weeks after its first test was completed with humans on board.
• The Virgin Hyperloop test run was conducted on a 500-meter track in Las Vegas in the USA with a pod, as the hyperloop vehicles are called, travelling with passengers, including an Indian, inside an enclosed tube at more than 100 mph or 161 kmph.
• The committee has NITI Aayog member VK Saraswat as its Chairman and Adviser (Infrastructure Connectivity, Niti Aayog) Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha as its convener.
• Its other members are Railway Board Chairman & CEO VK Yadav, the secretaries of the ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs, Road Transport and Highways, and the Maharashtra government’s Transport Secretary.

Cabinet minister Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurates Phagwara mega food park in Punjab

• Union Food Processing Industries Minister Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurated the Rs 107.83 crore mega food park at Phagwara in Kapurthala district of Punjab which is likely to generate 5,000 jobs.
• The mega food park, spread over 55 acres of land and that will benefit 25,000 farmers, is equipped with warehouses in 3,944 square meter, silos with 20,000 tonne capacity, cold storage with 3,000 tonne capacity as well as individually quick-frozen and deep freezer units and other facilities.
• So far, 37 mega food parks have been sanctioned across the country, of which 20 have started functioning.
• Highlighting measures taken to boost the farm sector, Tomar stated MSP has been increased and a new scheme has been started to establish 10,000 new farmer producers organizations (FPOs) across the country. Besides, a Rs 10,000 crore fund has been created for the promotion of the food processing sector.
• He further stated that research has a huge role to play in the agriculture sector and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has been doing great work.

Agriculture Minister unveils ‘Sahakar Pragya’ to impart training to primary cooperative societies in rural areas

• Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar unveiled Sahakar Pragya. The 45 new training modules of Sahakar Pragya of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) will impart training to primary cooperative societies in rural areas of the country along with Lakshmanrao Inamdar National Cooperative Research and Development Academy.
• On this occasion, Mr. Tomar called upon the cooperative sector to play a role in making the village-poor-farmers Atma Nirbhar. He stated, India boasts a huge network of over 8.50 lakh cooperative societies with about 290 million members and around 94 per cent of the farmers are member of at least one cooperative society.
• The Agriculture Minister stated, NCDC has emerged as a financial powerhouse of giving the client cooperatives a wide range of products and services. So far, it has advanced loans to the tunes of 1.58 lakh crore rupees to cooperative societies of various categories across the country. He stated, Sahakar Pragya is the latest in the series of farmer focused steps by NCDC.

Govt approves 7 proposals of Food Processing Projects worth over Rs 234 cr

• The government has approved seven proposals of Food Processing Projects worth over 234 crore rupees. It also includes  grants-in-aid of 87 crores rupees in Meghalaya, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
• Minister of Food Processing Industries Narendra Singh Tomar virtually chaired Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee meeting.  Proposals received under the Scheme for Creation of Infrastructure for Agro-Processing Cluster of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana were considered. Ministry of Food Processing Industries in a statement stated that these projects will leverage private investment of 173.81 crores rupees and are expected to generate employment for 7750 persons.
• The scheme for Creation of Infrastructure for Agro-Processing Cluster was approved in 2017 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana to incentivize the setting up of agro processing clusters in the country.  This scheme aims at development of modern infrastructure to encourage entrepreneurs to set up food processing units based on cluster approach.

Govt Extends Period For Submission Of Life Certificate By Central Govt Pensioners Till 28th Feb 2021

• Government has extended the period for submission of Life Certificate by Central Government pensioners till 28th February next year.
• Earlier, the government had extended the timeline for submission of Life Certificate from 1st of November to 31st of December, 2020.
• According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, the Department has been in receipt of numerous petitions from various Pensioners’ Associations as well as individuals requesting a further extension in the date for submitting Life Certificate in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and vulnerability of elderly population to corona virus.
• The Ministry stated, after consultation with the office of Controller General of Accounts, it has now been decided to further extended the existing timeline for submission of Life Certificate.

Education Minister inaugurates 46 online ATAL Faculty Development Programmes

• Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated 46 online AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) to train teachers of higher education institutions. The FDPs will be conducted in 22 Indian states. On the occasion, Mr Pokhriyal stated, in the year 2020-21, new thrust areas in the field of Engineering, Management, Life Skills, Design and Media have been incorporated.
• The online Faculty Development Programmes  will be conducted according to the new National Education Policy -2020. The Education Minister also informed that the London-based organization has recognized the FDPs as a world record, under which 1,000 online FDPs in over 100 emerging areas will benefit one lakh faculty members across premier institutions like IITs, NITs, and IIITs. This year the online FDP programme will cost 10 crore rupees.

India, EU hold 6th round of consultations on disarmament & non-proliferation matters

• India and the European Union held the sixth round of consultations on disarmament and non-proliferation matters in a virtual format.
• The consultations involved exchanges on developments in the area of nuclear, chemical, biological disarmament and non-proliferation, conventional weapons, outer space security issues, export control regimes, strategic stability environment and other developments of mutual interest.
• The consultations aim at enhancing mutual understanding and appreciation between India and the EU on international security issues. These are part of the broad dialogue architecture with the EU as a key strategic partner of India.

The LVB merger with DBS bank is in delay. The Lakshmi Vilas Bank amalgamation plan is going on with the Indian Subsidiary of the Development Bank of Singapore. but now the RBI has delayed the final merger scheme of LVB Merger with DBS for one week.

Merger News:

The Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) is a private lender, founded in 1926. The Headquarters of the LVB is in Chennai. It became a ‘scheduled commercial bank’ on 11 August 1958. Recently the bank faced a huge loss. As a result, On 17th November 2020, the Reserve Bank of India issued a notification and declared that the financial position of Lakshmi Vilas Bank is not sufficient to pay off its depositors. So they have announced a moratorium period of one under which depositors are able to withdraw a limited amount of money. The RBI quoted following reasons for the suspension,

• Erosion of funds
• No strategic plans
• Declining advances
• Increasing NPA level

On the same day, the RBI announced the amalgamation plan of LVB with DBS.

Delay in Merger Scheme:

DBS (The Development Bank of Singapore, Ltd) is a Singapore based Foreign bank. In this merger, RBI stated that the DBS India will infuse ₹2,500 crore capital into LVB. The LVB merger news with the Indian subsidiary of DBS bank is now in delay for one week. So the final confirmation on this merger plan will get delayed for one week.
