Fintech company CRED launched RuPay credit card-based UPI payments
- Fintech firm CRED in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), introduced RuPay credit card-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments for its members.
- CRED supports RuPay credit cards issued by banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, BOB Financial Solutions, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank.
Key Highlights :
- The launch of credit-on-UPI will empower CRED’s members to utilise their RuPay credit cards for making payments via UPI.
- Users can pay businesses or merchants by scanning any UPI QR code, using their RuPay credit card linked to their UPI.
- This integration enables members to complete transactions swiftly and securely with a simple scan using their linked RuPay credit card.

International Monetary Fund raises India’s FY24 GDP growth forecast by 20 basis points to 6.1%
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised India’s GDP growth forecast for the financial year 2023-24 (FY24) by 20 basis points to 6.1% from earlier 5.9% after the country’s stronger-than-expected growth in the fourth quarter of 2022.
- The IMF has also revised the upward growth forecast for the global economy by 20 basis points for 2023 to 3%.
Key Highlights :
- India’s economic growth increased by 6.1% in the March quarter of FY23.
- In June 2023, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) revised upward its forecast to 6% for FY24.
- RBI expects the Indian economy to expand at 6.5% in FY24.
- IMF has forecasted inflation of 4.9% for FY24.
- The IMF also revised upward its growth forecasts for the US by 20 basis points and for the UK by 70 basis points.
- The IMF stated that world trade growth will decline from 5.2% in 2022 to 2% in 2023.
- It will then rise to 3.7% in 2024.
- It will remain below the 2000-19 average of 4.9%.
- Deloitte India has forecasted India’s GDP is likely to grow 6-6.3% in FY24.

Union Government to launch e-CARe portal tomorrow to facilitate the transfer of mortal remains of Indians who die abroad
- The Union Government will launch the e-CARe (e-Clearance for Afterlife Remains) portal to facilitate the swift transfer of mortal remains of Indians who die abroad.
- Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, the portal is being introduced to avoid delay during the transportation of the deceased human remains across international borders.
- He said, through this portal intimation will be sent through email, SMS, and WhatsApp to the Central International Health Division, Nodal Officer, Consignees, and the Airlines.
- The designated nodal officer will scrutinise and get approval within 48 hours.
- The application status can be viewed in the e-CARe portal through the registration number.

MOIL achieves record-breaking production and sales in July 2023
- MOIL Limited, the largest producer of manganese ore in India, has recorded its best-ever performance for the month of July since its inception.
- The company produced 1.20 lakh tonnes of manganese ore in July 2023, registering a remarkable growth of 71% compared to the same period last year.
- This is the highest-ever July production achieved by MOIL in its history.
- MOIL Limited has also recorded its best-ever sales of 0.94 lakh tonnes in July 2023, witnessing an impressive growth of 69% over the corresponding period last year.
- The sales performance reflects the strong demand for manganese ore in the domestic and international markets.
28 % GST on online gaming & casinos to be effective from October 1, 2023
- Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has said, 28 per cent GST on casinos and online gaming will be levied on the face value.
- Addressing media after the 51st GST Council Meeting in New Delhi
- The 28 per cent GST on online gaming and casinos is expected to be implemented from the 1st of October,2023.
- GST Council in its last meeting had recommended that the law may be amended in this regard to provide clarity in the matter. It recommended certain amendments in the CGST Act 2017 and IGST Act 2017 to provide clarity on the taxation of supplies in casinos, horse racing, and online gaming.

Myanmar junta extends state of emergency by another 6 months
- Members of Myanmar’s National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) decided to extend the state of emergency in the country and the term of the junta led by Min Aung Hlaing for another 6 months.
- This step is expected to delay the elections which Junta had pledged to hold by August 2023.
- The decision to extend the state of emergency was announced by acting president Myint Swe.

- The state of emergency was announced in February 2021 in Myanmar.
- According to Myanmar’s constitution, an emergency can be announced for 1 year in the beginning and can usually be extended for a maximum of two half-year terms at the discretion of NDSC.
- However, in January 2023, junta chief Min Aung Hlaing announced the emergency for the 3rd time.
- At that time, Junta violated the constitution for the first time.
- This is the 2nd time that the Junta has breached the Constitution regarding the state of emergency.

- He began his career as an assistant art director on the television film Tamas (1987).
