World Homeopathy Day-10th April:

  • World Homeopathy Day is observed annually on April 10 to commemorate Dr Samuel Hahnemann’s birth anniversary.
  • Dr Samuel Hahnemann is credited with developing the concept of homeopathy medicines.
  • This year, the theme for World Homeopathy Day 2022 in India is “People’s Choice For Wellness”
  • The theme, like every year, is decided by the Ministry of AYUSH.
  • The Homeopathy Central Council Act of 1973 established governmental recognition for the medical system in our country.

South-Central Railway launches ‘One station One Product’ initiative at 6 major stations:

  • The South-Central Railway (SCR) has launched the “One station One Product” initiative at 6 major stations in all its six divisions.
  • SCR in-charge General Manager, Arun Kumar Jain, has inaugurated stalls under the new initiative at Secunderabad Station.
  • The stalls have also been opened at Kacheguda beside Vijayawada, Guntur and Aurangabad Stations.
  • The Government had announced the new initiative in the General Budget 2022-23 and is already under trial at Tirupati.
  • Railways stations are suitable to promote indigenous and local products and the initiative is aimed at making the railway stations a sales and promotional hub for them.
  • The stalls will remain in operation initially till 7th May in two spells.
  • Fresh Water Pearl Jewellery and Hyderabad Bangles will be promoted at Secunderabad station while Pochampally products will be promoted at Kachiguda stations In Telangana.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh releases third positive indigenisation list in New Delhi to develop India as defence manufacturing hub:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has released the third positive indigenisation list in New Delhi to develop India as a defence manufacturing hub.
  • The third list consists of over one hundred items, including complex equipment and systems which are being developed and likely to translate into firm orders over the next five years.
  • The notification of the third list is a major initiative to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
  • on the basis of 1st and 2nd indigenization lists, a contract worth 54 thousand crore rupees has been done so far, and orders worth four lakh 50 thousand crore rupees are expected to be placed in the next five to seven years.
  • The country is moving ahead with the vision of self-reliance in the defence sector.
  • The 3rd list includes Sensors, Weapons ammunitions, Rocket, Naval Utility Helicopters, Patrol vessels, Anti-ship Missile, and Anti-Radiation Missile.

Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates scientific convention on ‘Homoeopathy: People’s Choice for Wellness’:

  • Union Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal has inaugurated a two-day scientific convention on ‘Homoeopathy: People’s Choice for Wellness’ in New Delhi.
  • The three apex bodies under Ministry of Ayush namely, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, National Commission for Homoeopathy and National Institute of Homoeopathy are jointly organising this convention on the World Homoeopathy Day which is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Homoeopathy, Dr. Christian Fredrich Samuel Hahnemann.
  • Minister of State for AYUSH, Dr Mahendrabhai Munjpara highlighted that the Homoeopathy is very effective in treating various diseases and improves individual health by safer means at a lesser cost.
  • This convention is an opportunity to review the path trodden so far, achievements in the field of Homoeopathy and to formulate future strategies for development of Homoeopathy.
  • There is an imminent need to initiate a dialogue among the major stakeholders of Homoeopathy to address much needed practice standards in clinical research informatics, data standards in clinical research, policy issues, educational standards, and instructional resources.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav chairs the 20th NTCA meeting:

  • The union minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Bhupender Yadav chaired the 20th Meeting of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) which was held in Pakke tiger reserve in Arunachal Pradesh on 9th April 2022.
  • First-ever NTCA meeting was conducted outside National Capital held at Arunachal Pradesh.
  • He also released the standard operating procedures for tiger reintroduction and supplementation in wild, forest fire audit protocol for tiger reserves, and a technical manual on MEE of Tiger reserves in India.
  • The NTCA has released a Forest Fire Audit Protocol for Tiger Reserves, which will assist tiger reserve managers in assessing their fire preparation and managing forest fires throughout their whole life cycle.

ADB, French firm LDC ink pact for USD 100 mn loan to help small farmers

  • Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Louis Dreyfus Company BV (LDC) have signed a loan of up to $100 million to help smallholder farmers in countries, including India and Pakistan recover from the economic challenges caused by Covid-19 and improve resilience to climate change impacts
  • The loan will support LDC’s operations in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Viet Nam by financing coffee, cotton, and rice inventories for over 50,000 smallholder farmers across these countries.
  • It will help secure food supply chains and reliable incomes for smallholder farmers, and help offset the impact of supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic.
  • An accompanying technical assistance (TA) grant will deliver capacity building and training activities that will reinforce the benefits of sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices for cotton farmers in India and coffee farmers in Indonesia.
  • The TA will support pilot-testing of drip irrigation in cotton fields in India, and use of biochar kilns in Indonesia.
  • The assistance under the TA is expected to benefit about 4,000 farmers, particularly women farmers.
  • The TA funding comprises USD 205,000 from ADB’s Technical Assistance Special Fund for COVID Recovery and USD 385,000 from the Strategic Climate Fund, administered by ADB.

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank launches new deposit scheme – Vikas Siri Sampat-1111’

  • Chairman of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank P. Gopi Krishna launched a new deposit scheme of the bank, Vikas Siri Sampat-1111.

Aim :

  • To encourage the habit of savings among the people.

About Vikas Siri Sampat-1111 :

  • The scheme is of a tenor of 1,111 days with an interest rate of 70% for the general public and 6.20 % for senior citizens.
  • It also offers the highest rate of annualized return of 03% for the general public and 6.60% for senior citizens.
  • Prospective customers of the scheme will earn higher interest and it is the highest rate offered among the nationalised banks.
  • Under the scheme, a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of 2 crore can be deposited.
  • The scheme is applicable to all segments of depositors, including senior citizens and institutions.

OIL signs incubation agreement with Hydrogen Fuel based Start-up for promoting Hydrogen mobility solutions in Northeastern India

  • The Oil India Limited (OIL) inked an Incubation Agreement with the Start-up firm Ohm Clean Tech Private Limited for Hydrogen Mobility Solutions in northeast India.
  • It is supported by the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati)
  • The start-up firm will focus categorically on – Design, Integration & Development of 9-M Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered e-Bus, and a Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) solutions.
  • Oil India Ltd. informed that OIL sponsors eligible Start-ups under its scheme “SNEH” (Start-up Nurturing, Enabling & Handholding).
  • OIL is presently incubating six Start-ups from all over the country working on various hi-tech fields like robotics, instrumentation, biotech and fuel delivery solutions.
  • OIL has already commenced a hydrogen generating and blending trial operation.
  • This would aid the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat efforts and pave the way for a hydrogen economy in the Northeast.

UIDAI, MeitY & ISRO Signs MoU to develop Bhuvan-Aadhar portal

  • The Unique Identification Authority Of India (UIDAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), New Delhi, and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad, for technical collaboration.

Signatories :

  • The MoU was signed by Sri Shailendra Singh, IFS, Deputy Director General, UIDAI and Prakash Chauhan, Director, NRSC in the presence of CEO,UIDAI and other senior officers of UIDAI and NRSC.

About the MoU :

  • Under the agreement, NRSC is set to develop the Bhuvan-Aadhar portal providing information and locations of the aadhaar centres across India.
  • The portal provides a facility to search the relevant Aadhaar centres by location based on residents requirements.
  • NRSC will also provide a web based portal to collect and store data pertaining to existing and new enrolment centres to improve citizen centric services by carrying out regular statutory inspections.
  • Collected data will be moderated for quality through approved authorities at regional level to ensure the precise information for residents about the centres along with online visualization facility.
  • Bhuvan will facilitate complete geographic information storage, retrieval, analysis and reporting for Aadhaar centres, with a high resolution backdrop of natural color satellite images.
  • UIDAI and NRSC are closely working out the modalities of design, integration and roll out on priority.

India successfully test-fires Pinaka missile systems Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System and Pinaka Area Denial Munition Rocket Systems

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Army successfully test-fired the Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (ADM) rocket systems.
  • A total of 24 EPRS rockets were fired for different ranges & the weapons met the required accuracy and consistency.
  • The Pinaka rocket system has been developed by Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune, supported by High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, another Pune-based laboratory of the DRDO.
  • The EPRS is the upgraded version of the Pinaka variant which has been in service with the Indian Army for the last decade.
  • The system has been upgraded with advanced technologies enhancing the range to meet the emerging requirements.
  • Rockets manufactured by MIL under transfer of technology from DRDO were flight-tested during this campaign.
  • After India established the performance efficacy of the enhanced version of Pinaka, the technology was then transferred to the Economic Explosives Limited and Munitions India Limited (MIL), Nagpur.

Govt reserves 25% of defence procurement budget for domestic private industry

  • To promote private industry, MSMEs and start-ups in defence production ecosystem, 25% of the Domestic Capital Procurement/Acquisition Budget, amounting to 21,149.47 Cr, will be earmarked for domestic private industry in FY2022-23.
  • The Defence Ministry has decided that an amount of Rs 1,500 crore will be earmarked for procurement from start-ups, including iDEX start-up, from within the allocations for domestic capital procurement.

Aim :

  • To foster innovation and encourage technology development in defence.
  • The Ministry of Defence had decided to earmark 68 per cent of the capital procurement budget for the domestic industry during 2022-23.
  • An amount of 84,597.89 crore was allocated for the domestic defence industry in the current financial year.

Uttarakhand CM Launches Anti-Corruption Mobile App

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched an anti-corruption mobile app, ‘Corruption-Free Uttarakhand App-1064’.
  • The app was developed by the vigilance department of Uttarakhand.

Aim :

  • To make the state corruption-free and ensure that governance in the state is carried out in a transparent manner.

Key People :

  • The chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Personnel and Vigilance secretary Arvind Singh Hyanki, superintendent of police Renu Lohani, CO S S Samant and others were also present on the occasion.

About the ‘Corruption-Free Uttarakhand App-1064’ :

  • The app will be available in both Hindi and English & it is the identity of the complainant that would be kept secret.
  • Through this app, any one can register his complaint using the app or by making a call on 1064 number.
  • All complaints would be registered on the app and the whole data would be kept safe & the fast disposal of the complaints received on the app should be ensured.
  • Also if the complaints received on the app are not related with the Vigilance department then they should be forwarded promptly to the CM helpline and the department concerned.
  • Strict action should be taken against the corrupt employees and swift disposal of all complaints should be ensured.
  • The principle of ‘ simplification, solution, disposal and satisfaction’ should be followed for the quick disposal of public issues.

IIT Madras launches India’s 1st indigenously developed prosthetic knee – Kadam

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras researchers have launched India’s first indigenously developed Polycentric Prosthetic Knee called ‘Kadam’.
  • The product was developed by a team at TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT-M, in association with the Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT) and Mobility India.
  • TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras, which developed and commercialized ‘Arise,’ the country’s first standing wheelchair and NeoFly-NeoBolt, an active wheelchair and motorized add-on for seamless indoor-outdoor mobility.

About Kadam :

  • Kadam will help above-knee amputees to walk with a comfortable gait, providing stability and reducing risk of stumbling.
  • It is designed for durability with high-strength stainless steel and aluminum alloy along with hard chrome plated EN8 pins and high fatigue life polymer bushings.
  • Its patented geometry is specifically optimized for use on uneven terrains.

Features :

  • Polycentric 4-bar knee joint provides the user better control of flexion-extension

Space-X launches 1st all private mission to ISS

  • SpaceX has successfully launched the first all-private crew of space tourists to the International Space Station, as part of Axiom Space’s Ax-1 mission.
  • The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket blasts off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral, Florida, with the first all-commercial space team, bound for the ISS.
  • This was SpaceX’s first private charter flight to the space station.
  • The mission, representing a partnership among Axiom, SpaceX and NASA, has been touted by all three as a major step in the expansion of commercial space ventures collectively referred to by insiders as the low-Earth orbit economy, or LEO economy.
  • Four men are taking part in the Ax-1 mission, led by LĂłpez-AlegrĂ­a.
  • The former astronaut is joined by three paying customers on the journey: American real estate investor Larry Connor, Canadian businessman Mark Pathy and Eytan Stibbe, a former fighter pilot from Israel.
  • The autonomously operated Crew Dragon will dock with the orbiting outpost some 250 miles (400 km) above the Earth.

  • As per the 12th QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022, IIT-Kharagpur has been named as one of the top universities of the world for the study of several subjects in the domain of engineering.
  • The institute ranked 37th in 2022 an improvement from its 44th position in 2021 in mineral and mining engineering and 80th in 2022 from 90th in 2021 in electrical and electronic engineering globally.
  • In engineering and technology, which are the domains of the pioneering institute, it ranked 101st in the world and third in India.
  • In the QS ranking IIT Kharagpur has been ranked among India’s top three domestically.

F1 Australian Grand Prix 2022 won by Charles Leclerc:

  • Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, as world champion Max Verstappen was forced to retire his Red Bull after giving valiant chase.
  • It was the third round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship.
  • Sergio PĂ©rez of Red Bull Racing-RBPT, Mexico came second while George Russell (Mercedes – Britain) came third.
  • Verstappen was on course for second place when his car failed with 18 laps to go.
  • The second Red Bull of Sergio Perez finished second, ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal wins first-ever gold medal at World Doubles Squash championships:

  • India won two gold medals at the WSF World Doubles Squash Championships on the back of brilliant performances by Dipika Pallikal KarthikSaurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.
  • In the mixed doubles final, Dipika and Saurav defeated the English duo Alison Waters and Adrian Waller 11-6, 11-8.
  • This was India’s first ever gold at the doubles championships.
  • In 2016 Dipika and Saurav had reached the final at the championship, losing to Joell King and Paul Coll from New Zealand.
  • Meanwhile in the women’s doubles final, Dipika and Joshna Chinappa defeated the higher-ranked pair of Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters 11-9, 4-11, 11-8 (after having lost to them in the pool stage).
  • Dipika last featured in the 2018 Asian Games, where she won a bronze in the singles event, and was making her return to the sport after a gap of four years.

Thailand Open Boxing Tournament 2022: India Bags 10 medal with 3 gold:

  • Tokyo Olympians Amit Panghal and Ashish Kumar settled for silver medals in the men’s 52kg and 81kg events, respectively, at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022 in Phuket
  • Indian boxers finished the tournament with 10 medals – three gold, four silver and three bronze.
  • Govind Sahani (men’s 48kg), Ananta Pralhad Chopde (men’s 54kg) and Sumit Kundu (men’s 75kg) were the three gold medal winners from this edition.
  • With as many as seven Indians competing for gold, former world No. 1 and world championships silver medallist Amit Panghal lost a tight match against the Phillipines’ Rogen Ladon, an Asian Games silver medallist from 2018.
  • India had won eight medals – one gold, four silver and three bronze – in the last edition with Ashish Kumar, incidentally, winning India’s only gold.
