List of Vice-Presidents of India
After independence, a total of 13 individuals have been selected for the post of Vice-President. The first vice president of independent India was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He took the oath on 13th May 1952 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Given below is a list of vice-presidents of India from 1950-2020 in a tabular format:

Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria to be on the list of vice presidents of India:
- The candidate must be a citizen of India
- The age must be greater than 35 years
- He/she should not hold any office of profit under any government or local authority
- He/she must be eligible to be elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Elections
The Vice President is elected indirectly by members of both houses of parliament. The election is conducted through a secret ballot. The voting is done through a single transferable vote. Only the nominated members of both the houses of parliament can participate in the vice-presidential elections.
Every candidate for the post of vice president has to deposit a sum of ₹15,000 in the Reserve Bank of India and Election Commission of India as security. The vice-presidential election should be conducted within two months of the expiry term of the existing vice president’s office. If any dispute or conflict arises in the elections for the vice president it is resolved by the supreme court of India. The total term for the vice president is five years. There is no limitation to the number of times an individual can hold the office. At the swearing out ceremony, the following oath is taken by the selected candidate for the post of vice-president. This oath is given under article 69 of the Indian constitution:
“I, [name] do swear in the name of God/solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter.”
In absence of the vice president, his duties can be performed by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha can remove the vice president after an advance notice by passing a resolution under Article 67 (b) of the constitution.
List of Vice-Presidents of India – Salary
The individual gets no salary as the vice president of the country. But the salary is provided under the ex officio chairman of Rajya Sabha. Currently, the monthly salary for that is ₹1,25,000. Along with the salary, many perks and facilities like medical, travel allowances, furnished residence, etc are provided. After retirement, 50% of the salary is given as the pension to the individual.
